A light-hearted fan interaction ahead of the release of Border 2 has sparked cross-border chatter online, after Varun Dhawan responded to a question from a Pakistani fan about the film’s release in his country.

Varun recently hosted a #VarunSays session on his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, January 6, where he answered fan questions about his upcoming projects. During the interaction, an X user named Ali Haider Meerani, who mentioned in his bio that he is from Sindh, Pakistan, expressed his admiration for Sunny Deol and asked whether Border 2 would release in Pakistan.

The fan wrote in Hindi-Urdu mix, “Bhai aapki Border 2 Pakistan mein kab release hogi aur main Tara Singh ka bahut bada fan hoon, unko mera salaam kehna,” referencing Sunny Deol’s iconic character from the original Border. The message quickly gained attention, with many users appreciating the warmth behind the question despite the sensitive historical backdrop of the film.

Responding thoughtfully, Varun clarified the nature of the project without shutting down the sentiment. He wrote, “Border 2 is a film based on the 1971 war and some true events around that. I’m sure Sunny sir ke Pakistan mein bhi fans hain,” acknowledging Sunny Deol’s popularity across borders while underlining the film’s subject matter.

The response was widely shared, with fans noting Varun’s balanced tone. While he did not comment directly on the possibility of a Pakistan release, his reply subtly highlighted the complexities involved in releasing a war film rooted in Indo–Pak history, especially one centred on the 1971 conflict.

Border 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border, which remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated war films. The sequel was officially announced on June 13, 2024, marking 27 years since the original’s release, and has been positioned as one of the biggest Hindi film releases of 2026.

Alongside Varun Dhawan and Sunny Deol, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in key roles. Sunny Deol plays Lt Colonel Fateh Singh Kaler, Varun essays Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, PVC, Diljit portrays a character inspired by Fg Offr Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC, while Ahan Shetty is seen as Lt Cdr Joseph Pius Alfred Noronha, MVC.

The film also features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana and Anya Singh. Presented by Gulshan Kumar’s T-Series and JP Dutta’s JP Films, and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, Border 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on January 23, adding to the anticipation around this ambitious war epic.
