Actor Daisy Shah has voiced strong concern over what she described as a serious lack of civic sense after a fire reportedly broke out near her residence in Mumbai’s Bandra East area amid ongoing election campaigning.
The incident allegedly took place late at night when Daisy was out walking her dogs close to her home. According to the actor, a house in the neighbourhood was set ablaze after crackers were burst as part of an election campaign activity. Visibly shaken by the incident, she took to Instagram to share a video from the spot, expressing shock, anger, and frustration over the reckless behaviour that, she said, put lives at risk.
In the video, Daisy criticised those responsible for the fire, alleging that they fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving residents to deal with the chaos and danger. She stressed that such actions show complete disregard for public safety, especially in densely populated residential areas.
Sharing the video, Daisy posted a long and scathing note holding election campaign teams accountable. She clarified that her statement was not politically motivated but focused purely on responsibility and safety. “I have got nothing to do with any political party, but when you hire teams to run campaigns for your elections please make sure they have some common sense in them,” she wrote.
She also revealed that her building committee had earlier refused permission for campaigners to go door to door, a decision she now believes was justified. Calling out the use of fireworks near homes, Daisy said bursting crackers next to residential buildings was “not the way to go about it” and labelled the incident as a result of sheer carelessness.
“It ain’t a natural calamity, it’s caused by brainless people. Take accountability, it’s high time,” she added, accusing those involved of ignoring basic civic responsibility and endangering lives.
The video quickly gained traction online, with many fans and social media users backing Daisy’s stand and echoing concerns about safety during election promotions, especially in crowded urban neighbourhoods.
Later, in a conversation with NDTV, Daisy clarified her remarks further. She said, “I said what I had to say already. There is no political agenda, nor am I trying to pin this on anybody. I stated what exactly happened.” She reiterated that her intent was only to highlight what she witnessed and the need for accountability.
On the professional front, Daisy Shah began her career in the film industry as an assistant choreographer to Ganesh Acharya. She made her acting debut as a lead in the 2011 Kannada film Bhadra and rose to national prominence in 2014 after starring opposite Salman Khan in Jai Ho. Over the years, she has worked across films and digital platforms, last seen in the 2023 film Mystery of the Tattoo and the 2024 web series Red Room.
