Snapshot AI
  • Jana Nayagan's Saudi release may face ban and certification issues.
  • No official confirmation yet from Saudi authorities or the film's makers
  • Film also faces certification delays and suggested cuts in India

Actor Vijay’s much-anticipated political action thriller Jana Nayagan, slated to release on January 9, has found itself at the centre of fresh speculation over a possible ban in Saudi Arabia. While social media is rife with claims that the film has not received clearance in the Gulf nation, the makers are yet to issue any official confirmation.

According to unverified online chatter, Jana Nayagan is reportedly awaiting certification in Saudi Arabia, prompting rumours that the team may reapply for approval with a few edits, including cuts and muted portions. Some reports also suggest that the film was initially expected to release at VOX Cinemas on January 9, though no specific age rating details were listed publicly. This lack of clarity has only fuelled speculation about its status in the region.

Industry insiders, however, urge caution. As of now, there is no formal announcement from Saudi authorities or the film’s production team confirming a ban. Despite this, the uncertainty has disappointed many fans, especially since Jana Nayagan is widely believed to be Vijay’s final film before he fully transitions into active politics in Tamil Nadu. With a reported budget of Rs 400 crore, expectations around the film have been exceptionally high.

Compounding the issue are the certification hurdles the film has faced in India. Jana Nayagan has reportedly encountered delays and suggested cuts from the Central Board of Film Certification. Supporters of the actor have labelled the delay a “political vendetta,” a claim that remains unsubstantiated. Earlier reports indicated that only minor corrections were recommended and that a revised version had already been submitted, raising questions about why the certificate has not yet been issued.

There is also talk that the makers may approach the courts if the clearance is not granted in time, given the film’s scheduled release date. As of now, no legal move has been officially announced.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, and Pooja Hegde in key roles alongside Vijay. Until the makers address the rumours directly, the question of whether Jana Nayagan is actually banned in Saudi Arabia remains unanswered, with speculation far outpacing verified facts.
