Legendary actress Shabana Azmi, known for her tremendous work in films like Amar Akbar Anthony and Namkeen, has been recently conferred an honorary doctorate by Techno India University in Kolkata. The acclaimed actress shared the proud moment with her fans by posting a close-up of her certificate on Instagram.
This makes it her sixth Honorary Doctorate. The actress shared a picture of the certificate and wrote in the caption, “Privileged to receive my 6th Hon. Doctorate in the presence of Hon’ble President of India Shri Kovind. Other recipients included Jogen Choudhry, Leander Paes, and Shankar Mahadevan.”
Shabana Azmi's social media post was flooded with congratulatory messages from fans who expressed immense joy and pride at her achievement. The comment section was a testament to the actress's enduring popularity and the respect she commands.
While speaking to ANI after receiving the accolade, she said, "I am very honoured to get the honorary D.Litt from Techno India University because the stature of the other recipients was so high, my attempts of being so modest that I don't think I deserved this honour. But I do believe, now that I have got it, it also places a responsibility on me. I think art can be used as an instrument for social change and that is what I have tried to do in my own little way."
Apart from the actress, the institution also conferred honorary doctorates on renowned singer Shankar Mahadevan, legendary tennis player Leander Paes, and acclaimed painter Jogen Choudhury.
Shabana Azmi was last seen in Karan Johar's Rocky Rani Ki Prem Kahani and was critically acclaimed for her role in the film.
