Recently, veteran actress Shabana Azmi made her debut in the show Dabba Cartel, produced by Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar, and Ritesh Sidhwani. In a recent interview, Azmi shared her experiences working with her stepson Farhan and his wife Shibani, offering a glimpse into their professional relationship and family bond.

Azmi reflected on how it felt to collaborate with them on the project, explaining the ease with which they worked together despite the challenges of the pandemic. She highlighted how family relationships can naturally extend into the workspace, and how the trust and camaraderie between them made the experience smoother.

During an interview with Netflix India’s YouTube channel, Azmi said, “No, it wasn’t really like that. The circumstances were much more dire than this.” She continued, adding a lighthearted touch, “Kyunki bahu ne likha aur beta produce kar raha hai toh meri kya majaal ki main kisi tarah se, aur voh bhi covid ke zamane mein, na bol du. Toh voh toh maine accept kar lia. (Because my daughter-in-law wrote it and my son was producing it, so how dare I, and that too during COVID, say no to this. So I accepted it.)”

In a 2023 interview with Filmfare, Azmi spoke about her close bond with Farhan and Zoya Akhtar, which she attributes to their mother, Honey Irani.

She shared, “We are very friendly. I have a great relationship with them based on friendship and trust. I value Farhan and Zoya very much and I think they value me. I think a lot of that credit goes to their mom Honey (Irani). I must say that she was very generous. If she had decided that the kids would not be friends with me, then they couldn’t have been friends with me.” This statement highlights the strong foundation of respect and trust that has defined her connection with the Akhtar siblings.

Azmi further emphasized her respectful approach to family matters, saying, “I have to accept in all honesty that I owe it to Honey that I have such a beautiful relationship not only with her children but also with her. We have a beautiful, happy bond. And I don’t poke my nose in their business. If I feel there is something they would rather not talk about, I do not talk about it." This showcases her understanding and sensitivity, allowing her to maintain a harmonious relationship with both Farhan and Zoya.

Javed Akhtar, Azmi's husband, was previously married to Honey Irani before their marriage in 1984, which has contributed to a unique family dynamic that is rooted in mutual respect and understanding.
