In exciting news for fans, actor-singer Selena Gomez is all set to reprise her beloved role as Alex Russo in the second season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
The popular 2007 Disney sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place, which starred Gomez alongside David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, David DeLuise, and Maria Canals-Barrera, is the inspiration for the show, which was created by Todd J. Greenwald.
Long-time fans of the show were delighted when Gomez appeared in two episodes of the spinoff's first season, which debuted in 2024. Now that the 32-year-old celebrity is formally making a comeback for season two, Alex Russo's magic will return.
On Thursday, Gomez took to Instagram to share a nostalgic behind-the-scenes photo from the set, holding a wand with the words “Just feels right” written across the image. The Emilia Perez actor’s post sparked a wave of excitement online, as fans eagerly anticipate her return to the whimsical world of Waverly Place.
She also shared a video clip in a joint post with David Henrie on Instagram along with the caption, "WE’RE SO BACK. Season 2 is gonna be. If you had big questions about season 1, then strap in y’all."
The video is a montage of last picture of David and Selena, recreating a scene for the original series as the popular sibling duo. Several fans took to the comment section, expressing their excitement to see them back in season 2.
One user wrote, "Tell me this isn’t the most magical reunion of 2025. I dare you." Another comment read, "We miss that old trio." A fan wrote, "ALEX AND JUSTIN ARE BAAAAAAACK shenanigans."
"Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) grapples with the fact that being part of the Russo family might be more complicated than she thought — especially now that she’s not the only wizard in the house. Thanks to Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo’s (Max Matenko) new magical powers, Justin is now tasked with training three young wizards for the Family Wizard Competition. As the stakes rise inside and outside the family, a mysterious new threat emerges — one that could unravel the Russos forever,” the synopsis of the second season reads.
The first four seasons of Wizards of Waverly Place ran until 2012. The Russo family, who own a restaurant and reside in New York City, was the subject of the show. The father and former wizard, played by David DeLuise, mentored his kids, Alex (Selena Gomez), Justin (David Henrie), and Max (Jake T. Austin), as they learnt to use their magical powers. In the end, only one of the siblings would be entitled to retain the family's magical wand and abilities.
