Saif Ali Khan opened up about the terrifying night when an intruder broke into his Bandra home, leading to an attack that left him hospitalized. In his first full-length interview since the incident, the actor recounted the harrowing experience in detail, sharing how his family, particularly his children, reacted to the ordeal.
Speaking to the Bombay Times, Saif recalled how his children- Ibrahim, Sara, Taimur and Jeh reacted after he was brutally injured during the attack.
Saif recalls his children's reaction
Saif reassured that his children are doing fine after the incident, saying, "The kids are okay, thank God." He shared a touching moment with his youngest son, adding, "Jeh has given me a plastic sword and said, ‘Keep this by your bed for the next time the chor comes.’ He says, ‘Geeta saved Abba and Abba saved me.’"
Further he continued, "Taimur is a little concerned about security. Sara was very emotional and Ibrahim was also very emotional, more than he obviously normally is. He was there and has been spending a lot of time with me."
He shared that while the incident was undoubtedly a shocking experience for everyone, it also strengthened their family bond. He added that his wife, Kareena, was understandably shaken but remained strong and composed. She is handling the situation well, though naturally concerned about security and ensuring that such an incident does not happen again.
Saif Ali Khan's response to people's reaction
He acknowledged that a wide range of reactions was expected following the incident, including ridicule, disbelief, and mockery. However, he saw no need to respond, as such diversity of opinions adds color to the world. If everyone reacted with sympathy alone, he felt it would be monotonous. What stood out to him most was the overwhelming kindness he experienced. He expressed gratitude for the many wonderful people who offered support, from ward boys and doctors to a rickshaw driver, whom he described as angels, heaven-sent. While there is certainly a fair share of ignorance in the world, he believes it is this mix of kindness and absurdity that keeps life interesting.
Saif's instinct while walking out of hospital
Saif Ali Khan went on to explain that his decision to walk out of the hospital on his own was not about making a statement but rather a personal instinct. Just as he had walked in, he wanted to walk out on his own terms. He emphasized that it wasn’t for show but rather to avoid unnecessary alarm. Recalling his father’s advice, he shared that he preferred to underplay such situations, choosing composure over dramatization.
While recounting that night Saif said that he remained composed and in control upon arriving at the hospital, despite sustaining multiple stab wounds. Given his celebrity status, the situation initially felt surreal, and the hospital staff took a moment to grasp the unusual circumstances. He recalled that they first brought a wheelchair, but he insisted that a stretcher would be more appropriate. To clarify the situation, he pointed to his face and said, ‘I’m Saif Ali Khan,' which led to a moment of realization for the staff. It was only then that the medical team quickly sprang into action, reacting with urgency after their initial hesitation.
