Actor-director Renuka Shahane has revealed that she is currently working on the script for her next directorial venture. While details remain under wraps, she hinted that the project might feature her husband, acclaimed actor Ashutosh Rana. Fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing the talented duo collaborate on screen.
Renuka Shahane, renowned for her roles in Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!, Masoom, and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, shared that her upcoming directorial project will be a black comedy centered around police and politics.
Speaking to PTI, Renuka said, “It’s (direction) my passion and I’m writing the script. It’s a black comedy and for once, it’s about men. (It deals with) police and politics."
"No one can really predict (when the film will go on floor) because I’m still scripting… Hopefully, I’ll direct him (Ashutosh Rana) in it,” she added.
Renuka Shahane made her directorial debut with the 2009 Marathi film Rita, an adaptation of her mother Shanta Gokhale's novel Rita Welingkar. Her second directorial venture, Tribhanga (2021), delved into the complex dynamics of mother-daughter relationships, starring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, and Mithila Palkar. The film premiered on Netflix.
Up next, Shahane will appear in the comedy series Dupahiya, set to stream on Prime Video this Friday. Directed by Sonam Nair, known for Masaba Masaba, the show is created and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg.
The nine-episode comedy series Dupahiya boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Gajraj Rao, Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastav, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashpal Sharma. Produced by Alona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani under the Bombay Film Cartel banner, the show promises an entertaining ride for viewers.
