Ranbir Kapoor's intense transformation in Animal (2023) sparked both awe and controversy. While the film drew flak for its perceived misogynistic undertones, it also shattered box office records and ignited discussions around Kapoor’s striking new look—long, wavy hair paired with a rugged beard. In a recent revelation, celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim disclosed that the actor’s hairstyle drew unexpected inspiration from none other than pop legend Michael Jackson.

Hakim, who collaborated closely with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, explained that Animal demanded multiple distinct looks for Ranbir’s character, Ranvijay Singh. “Vanga sir had told that the lead has long hair, but he had it in his younger days and then cut it off for his father and then upon return from America, he also has long hair. So both these long hair looks must be different,” he said. This narrative complexity gave Hakim room to play with different styles while maintaining character continuity.

The real breakthrough came when Hakim learned that Ranvijay was written as a fan of Michael Jackson. “I remembered MJ’s iconic leather jacket and white t-shirt style. I cracked the look and took inspiration from Michael Jackson’s curls and man bun for Ranbir,” he said.

To ensure authenticity, Hakim delved deep into Jackson’s fashion legacy. “I collected the iconic pictures of Michael Jackson and recreated that look. When people watched the film, they were not able to see that is the same style. Now that I am saying it, one can see the similarities. He actually makes his entrance with a moonwalk,” he added, highlighting the subtle homage to the King of Pop.

Animal charts the story of Ranvijay Singh, a deeply emotional and violent man whose life spirals after his father, Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), is attacked. As he embarks on a brutal path of vengeance, he confronts his long-lost cousin, Abrar Haque (played by Bobby Deol). The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri in pivotal roles.

With the sequel, Animal Park, officially announced, fans are eager to see how Ranvijay's journey unfolds—both emotionally and stylistically. And with Michael Jackson’s legacy already influencing Kapoor’s on-screen persona, it will be interesting to see where the character’s look evolves next.
