The Tamil film Bad Girl, starring Anjali Sivaraman in the lead, is making headlines after facing controversy for allegedly portraying the Brahmin community in a negative light.

The film is slated to be premiered at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam on January 31st, 2025 and has been directed by Varsha Bharath and is produced by Vetri Maaran and Anurag Kashyap.

From the teaser, it appears that the makers of the movie intend to portray the story of a young girl from the Tamlian Brahmin family who wants to be rebellious and disobeys her parents to live her life to the fullest, which involves having drinks and having intimate relations with strangers.

One fan wrote, "There is love Jihad from Ms & there r some Hindus & atheists who want to target, marry & ruin Brahmin girls. This movie #BadGirl is clear & direct 'messaging'!
If makers had GUTS they shud hv made the girl a Muslim in Hijab! Ms wud hv broken their bones!"

Another user posted on X, "What really astounds me about the Bad Girl movie is the sheer cruelty of Vetrimaran and co. Until now, you were degrading Brahmin characters but at least they were adults. Now you are using a Brahmin girl character for your politics. Can you imagine how much harm your shitty movie causes to an average school going Brahmin girl - the ragging and mocking this will entail? Not difficult to imagine some of the snide comments the boys will make based off the movie."

A netizen also said, "@NCWIndia @IFFIGoa Ban the Tamil movie Bad Girl. Action needed on the producer and director. The movie is harmful to school going girls, facilitating ragging, type-casting and anti-Brahmin caste."

"Another stupid movie targeting only one set of girls from families who may consider themselves orthodox and having moral values - what are they trying to prove- that everyone can be corrupt in this day and age? Why not girls from other communities? Because it won’t attract eyeballs? What rubbish is this concept #BadGirl it seems! More like #BadMovie," shared another user on X.

Meanwhile actor Dhanush and director Pa Ranjith shared the poster of the film along with a good note and urging the audience to watch it.

The film features Anjali as Ramya, a young girl who always wanted a boyfriend but is shamed for getting intimate after she gets one. Varsha’s Bad Girl also features Shanthi Priya, Saranya Ravichandran, Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam and Sashank Bommireddipalli. The film marks the Tamil debut of music composer Amit Trivedi.
