The film had its world premiere last year at the 2023 POFF, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

The Hindi remake of the critically-acclaimed Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ also stars Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljit Singh in key roles. ‘Mrs.’ is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Pammi Baweja and Harman Baweja’s Baweja Movies.

Jeo Baby won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film and Nimisha was awarded the Filmfare Award South in 2022.

It is a story of a young married woman whose life revolves around the kitchen, an age-old stricture of patriarchal societies, a fate most women have been condemned to for long. The film touches upon gender inequality. In one of her interviews to IANS, the Mumbai-based director Arati Kadav said, “While this core story is very much relatable anywhere in India, there are a lot of cultural nuances that are very distinct between south and north India. When we talk of pan-Indian audience, every city has its own kind of signature. For instance, people of Mumbai are so different from Delhi. Touching the chord of everyone without tampering with the emotional intimacy of the film is very challenging and exciting at the same time.”

Kadav further explained why she cast Sanya Malhotra to play the lead, “In the recent time, Sanya has that pan-Indian appeal to her face and she brings in those nuances through her performance.” From a rustic, feisty girl from the north in such films as ‘Dangal’ and ‘Pataakha’ to playing a Tamil Brahmin bride in ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’, Sanya Malhotra has displayed a range of characters in the roles she has picked.

This award is a recognition of that. Now for the Indians back home to watch this Hindi adaptation on the big screen.
