Lily Gladstone was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for her exceptional performance in Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. Gladstone lost the award to Emma Stone for ‘Poor Things’.
The ‘Certain Women’ star recently revealed that no one back home at the Blackfeet Nation was upset at her losing the Academy Award. According to reports, some leaders of the Blackfeet Nation just assumed that Gladstone would be coming home with the award, especially since her performance was being lauded as the best of the year. She was also sweeping the awards season.
“It was funny, the organisers of the event called me beforehand and they said that they’d got a bunch of little cardboard cut-outs of gold-man statues that looked like an Oscar, to give to the kids. They asked if that was okay, or if it was gonna hurt my feelings. I said: ‘No, absolutely not.’ That’s just the whole thing of award campaigns and the competitive nature of pitting art against art. Clearly this film, in this moment, had meaning. It did its job,” Gladstone told an entertainment portal.
She continued, “But yeah, nobody was upset that it didn’t happen. When the Golden Globe happened, a lot of people who are very far away from the industry just kind of thought it was the Oscars. It’s about the fact that the film has been awarded and it’s historic, and it’s still just a really meaningful moment. So it’s irrelevant whether or not I walked home with that statue in hand.”
Gladstone’s performance as Mollie Burkhart earned her a lot of laurels. She won the Best Actress award at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. These awards made her a huge contender for the Oscars.
The actress emphasised that the loss has not deterred her, she has a lot of upcoming projects. One of them is ‘Fancy Dance’ for Apple+ TV, another is ‘The Memory Police’ which is an adaptation of Yoko Ogawa’s 1994 sci-fi novel.
The actress is also starring in the series titled ‘Under The Bridge’ alongside Riley Keough. The episodes of the true crime are streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
