Kalki 2898 AD: Kamal Haasan on why it took him almost a year to say yes to Nag Ashwin, says he had 'self doubt'

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan will be seen playing the role of the main antagonist, Yaskin, in the mythological sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD. He recently revealed the real reason why it took him almost a year to say yes to Nag Ashwin for the movie.

Kamal Haasan was a part of the conversation that the Kalki actors had with the two female producers, Swapna and Priyanka of Vyjanthi Films. During that conversation, Swapna Dutt thanked all the stars: If we, being two women, are able to pull off something like this, it is entirely—off course Nagi, his vision, his absolute hard work—but also actors like you all who are extremely understanding and who understand the beauty of cinema and are willing to give whatever it takes to make cinema, and for someone like Prabhas who's not even questioning if it's just two girls can pull it off or no.

During that conversation, Swapna revealed that “one of the most difficult castings ever was Kamal, sir.” She said that during the shoot of the film, they kept thinking, “When is Yaskin coming?”

"We were shooting, shooting, and thinking, Where is Yaskin? The whole film is Yaskin, but where is Yaskin? And how would you cast this person who is equivalent to or mightier than the two superheroes? We could only think of Kamal, sir. It took us easily one year to cast him," she laughed while informing us about how Kamal Hasan was cast.

Then Prabhas says, "I was telling you, why will he do it? Don't torture me, just leave."

Kamal Haasan smiled and said, "Not torture, but I had self-doubt; he has done it; you have done it; what am I going to do? You know, that was the reason. And it's not that I’ve played bad guys before. Even as a lead bad guy, psychopaths, and all that. But this is something else,” he said.

Prabhas folded his hands and said, "We are lucky to have Kamal, sir."

Kalki 2898 AD also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. The film is all set for a grand opening on June 27.
