Paul Schrader directed ‘Oh Canada’ had its premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on Friday night. The Uma Thurman and Richard Gere starrer drama drew a 3 minute standing ovation. The film also stars Jacob Elordi but he was absent at the premiere. Schrader previously worked with Gere on ‘American Gigolo’.
This film marks Paul Schrader’s first Cannes entry since ‘Patty Hearst’ in 1988.
‘Oh Canada’ is based on a novel titled ‘Foregone’ by Russell Banks. According to an official synopsis, the story focuses on a Canadian documentary filmmaker who "gives a final interview to one of his former students to tell the whole truth about his life.”
The cast looked absolutely phenomenal on the red carpet.
Richard Gere is often called one of the most handsome men in the Hollywood industry and his appearance at the Cannes Film Festival just proved that. The actor, now 74, was joined by his wife, Alejandra Silva, and his 24 year old son, Homer.
Homer made his Cannes debut with his father, Gere and Uma Thurman. He is a budding actor but mostly prefers to stay out of the spotlight.
Richard recently spoke to Reuters and revealed that he added emotional depth to his character in the film by looking inward on his own feelings after his father’s death.
He said, “It so resonated with my own emotional voyage with my dad, who was almost 101 when he passed away.”
Richard Gere looked debonaire in a black tux, white shirt and a black tie. His wife, Silva looked radiant wearing a strapless black gown with beautiful flowers illustrated on it.
The premiere was also attended by ‘Kill Bill’ actress Uma Thurman who looked radiant as ever wearing a Burberry pearl white dress.
