The fifth Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, could feature as many as 60 superheroes and superheroines. This would be a significant increase over the first Avengers film in 2012 that brought together the superpowers of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye to fight Loki and the 'Other'. The first Avengers film had also brought together the star power of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Tom Hiddlestone as Loki, to make the feature Marvel's first billion-dollar grosser.
Director Shawn Levy, whose Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on July 26 in the US, is reportedly in early talks with Marvel Studios to make Avengers 5.
Avengers box office
Indeed, the Avengers films have proven to be quite bankable even within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All four Avengers films are in the Top 5 of highest-grossing superhero films. Here's a quick look at what the Avengers films made at the global box office:
The Avengers (2012) - USD 1.51 billion
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - USD 1.4 billion
Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - USD 2.04 billion
Avengers: Endgame (2019) - USD 2.79 billion
To be sure, despite recent failed series, MCU has largely been considered a bankable franchise since 2008, when Robert Downey Jr first donned Iron Man's titanium-gold suit with the Arc Reactor core.
