Bad news is coming from South India. Reliable sources have confirmed that the much-anticipated collaboration between Telugu superstar Allu Arjun and Tamil filmmaker Atlee Kumar has been called off. The talks between the two, which promised a potential blockbuster collaboration following their massive successes with Pushpa: The Rise and Jawan respectively, have unfortunately come to an end.
Allu Arjun and Atlee were reportedly in discussions for a pan-India action entertainer, but their conversation ended prematurely. A source close to the filmmaker revealed, "They were definitely in talks, but it was at a very primary stage, and the collaboration was never finalised as was being speculated in the media. Atlee is still working on the script and hasn't locked anyone yet. It would have been great to see both of them teaming up on a massive project, but, as of now, Allu Arjun and Atlee’s film is not happening."
There have been numerous rumours surrounding the reasons behind the project's cancellation. Some media reports suggested that Atlee's demand for an 80 crore remuneration fee led to the fallout. However, sources refute these claims, dismissing them as "baseless conjectures." The insider emphasised, "Atlee and Allu Arjun share mutual respect, and the project fell through simply because it did not align with each other’s preferences."
The film currently has no production timeline fixed, but it is expected to get off the ground in the first quarter of next year, depending on the lead actor's availability. In the meantime, Atlee has reportedly approached Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for the project. However, discussions with him are also in the very initial stages at this moment.
This isn't the first time Allu Arjun and Atlee have come close to working together. Initially, the two were supposed to collaborate on Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. The director had approached Allu Arjun for an important cameo role, but he turned down the offer due to his preoccupation with shooting Pushpa 2: The Rule. The role was eventually played by Sanjay Dutt, who added significant flair to the plot and won the hearts of fans.
Atlee's next film is highly anticipated, especially after delivering Bollywood’s biggest box office blockbuster of all time with Jawan. This success has solidified his reputation as one of the most in-demand commercial filmmakers in India. Meanwhile, Allu Arjun is currently finishing the shooting for Pushpa 2: The Rule and was supposed to begin Atlee's film right after its release. However, with their film now shelved, the details of Allu Arjun’s next project remain a mystery.
The news of the project's cancellation has been met with disappointment among fans and industry insiders. Many were eagerly looking forward to the dynamic combination of Allu Arjun's star power and Atlee's directorial brilliance. The collaboration was seen as a perfect blend of Telugu and Tamil cinema, promising a pan-India appeal.
While the disappointment is palpable, the industry is buzzing with speculation about Atlee's approach to Salman Khan. Given Khan's massive fan base and Atlee's proven track record, this potential collaboration could still deliver a major box office hit. However, with discussions still in the early stages, fans will have to wait and see if this new partnership comes to fruition.
