Mohit Suri defends Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga: I love his films, hum banate hai usse controversial

Filmmaker Mohit Suri has come out in strong support of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga amid ongoing debates around the latter’s controversial cinematic style. Speaking to Filmygyan, Mohit Suri praised Vanga's storytelling and emphasized that much of the criticism surrounding his films stems from audience interpretation rather than the filmmaker’s intent.

“I love his films. Hum banate hai use controversial (We make his films controversial),” Mohit stated candidly. Drawing parallels with past cinema, he added, “Ye same kahani aap kisi gangster ke sath karo — Bhatt sahab ne kiya hai 'Sadak' mein. (You make Sandeep’s kind of films with a gangster — Mahesh Bhatt has done it in 'Sadak'). We are from that school of cinema. Ram Gopal Varma has made such films too. Everyone has the right to make their films. You have a right to like it or not like it."

Suri also touched upon the depth and emotion in Vanga’s work, particularly in his films Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and the recent Animal. “Very few people think Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh have no difference. I feel there is a big difference between the two films. There is more emotion in the second part. I loved Animal. I messaged him during Animal that I am a Sandeep Reddy Vanga fan,” he revealed.

Known for his own emotionally charged films like Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain, Mohit’s support reflects a growing sentiment among filmmakers who advocate for artistic freedom, even if the stories ruffle feathers.

Currently, Suri is promoting his latest romantic drama Saiyaara, produced by Yash Raj Films. The film marks the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, portraying a singer-songwriter duo entangled in love, ambition, and heartbreak. With music by Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami, Saiyaara aims to deliver a soulful, musical journey.

The trailer has already garnered praise from industry figures like Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, building anticipation ahead of its theatrical release on July 18.
