Sixteen years after his death, the world continues to remember and mourn the unparalleled legacy of music legend Michael Jackson. On June 25, 2009, the “King of Pop” passed away at the age of 50, leaving behind an extraordinary musical journey that reshaped pop culture, music videos, and live performances forever. As world marks his death anniversary today, fans across the globe are revisiting the highs of his career and the tragic circumstances that ended it.

How Did Michael Jackson Die?

Michael Jackson died of cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles home while preparing for his highly anticipated “This Is It” comeback tour in London. The shocking news of his passing stunned fans and the entertainment world alike. The cause of death was later revealed to be acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication, administered by his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray. Jackson, suffering from chronic insomnia, had been relying on sedatives to sleep.

Dr. Murray gave Michael Jackson a powerful mix of medications, and when the singer stopped breathing, emergency services were called—but it was too late. Two years later, in 2011, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years in prison.

Michael Jackson’s Last Words & Final Meal

During the trial, Dr. Murray revealed Michael Jackson’s final words: “Please, please give me some milk so that I can sleep.” The term “milk” was Jackson’s nickname for propofol, the anesthetic he believed was the only thing that helped him rest.

According to reports, his last meal was a spinach salad with grilled chicken breast—a light, healthy dish served to him the evening before his untimely death.
