Netflix star Jung Sung-il has announced his amicable separation from his wife after nine years of marriage. The actor’s agency confirmed that the split was mutual, and both continue to support each other in raising their child.

Popular Korean actor Jung Sung-il, who rose to fame on Netflix with the drama The Glory, has recently announced a split from his wife after nine years of marriage.

Jung Sung-il’s agency released an official statement on October 14 announcing the split.

According to The Korea Times, the statement reads, “Jung Sung-il has made the decision to end his marital life after careful consideration with his spouse over a long period.”

The statement continued, “As this decision was made through a mutual and amicable agreement without any fault on either side, we kindly request refraining from distorted or speculative reporting.”

It further noted, “Although the legal relationship has been settled, we support each other’s paths and are diligently doing our best together regarding the upbringing of our child.” It added, “Jung Sung-il will continue to do his best to show good performances as an actor, so we ask for your continued interest and support.”

For the unversed, Jung Sung-il married a woman identified only by her surname Ryu in 2016. The couple welcomed a son the following year.

The actor reflected on his relationship during his 2023 appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block. At the time, the actor said, “We met through a friend of a friend in our early 20s,” and “My wife went to study in the U.S., and we dated for three years communicating via email and phone calls.”

He continued, “Although we separated for 7–8 years afterward, we frequently stayed in touch because my wife was close to my mother.”

He explained, “My mother fell ill and came to Seoul for surgery, and my wife accompanied her to the hospital, leading us to meet again. We got married three months later.”

Who is Jung Sung-il?

Jung Sung-il is a well-known actor and made his acting debut in 2002 with the film H. He has primarily worked in theatre and musical productions.

His portrayal of Ha Do-young in the Netflix original drama The Glory increased his global recognition in 2023.

He has since starred in a number of movies and television shows, including the Disney+ drama Trigger, the movie Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, and Murder Report. He is gearing up for Disney+ Made in Korea.
