For Kannappa, one of the most awaited pan-Indian movies of 2025, the countdown has begun. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has now approved the mythological action drama, which is scheduled for release on June 27 and stars Vishnu Manchu in the title role.
Runtime & Censor Update
On June 19, 2025, Kannappa was formally censored and given a UA 13+ rating. At a staggering 3 hours and 2 minutes, the film's final runtime suggests an epic story that blends mythology, drama, devotion, and spectacle.
Plot: From Atheist to Devoted
The movie tells the story of Thinnadu's spiritual development. Thinnadu is a fierce tribal hunter who does not believe in Lord Shiva at first. Thinnadu changes into Kannappa, a devoted follower whose tale is steeped in Hindu mythology and legend, as a result of a sequence of life-changing incidents.
Cameos & Star-Studded Cast
Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Siva Balaji, Kaushal Manda, Rahul Madhav, Devaraj, Mukesh Rishi, Raghu Babu, and Preity Mukhundhan are among the film's strong performers, though Vishnu Manchu steals the show.
However, the cameos from some of the biggest names in Indian cinema are what have increased the buzz surrounding Kannappa. Prabhas plays the role of Rudra, a Rigvedic deity, and he spends about forty-five minutes on screen.
Cameos:
Prabhas as Saint Rudra Pasupathi
Mohanlal as the tribal warrior Kirata.
Lord Shiva, played by Akshay Kumar.
Goddess Parvati, played by Kajal Aggarwal.
It is anticipated that these appearances will increase the film's star power and opulence.
The Story of Kannappa
Based on the revered Shaivite saint Kannappa, who is connected to the Srikalahasti Temple in Andhra Pradesh, Kannappa was directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh. As a former hunter, Kannappa's special and deep devotion to Lord Shiva—which includes giving him meat, water, and even his eyes—is at the heart of the narrative. Shiva was so moved by his unorthodox worship that the god forbade him from offering his second eye as a sacrifice.
The Creation
Supported by Mohan Babu and operating under the auspices of AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory. Kannappa is preparing to be both a visual feast and a spiritual saga combined with its enormous budget, spectacular visuals, and emotionally stirring mythological story.
Release in Multiple Languages
A true pan-Indian cinematic experience, Kannappa will be released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. All eyes will be on June 27 to see if this mythological epic can live up to the rising expectations now that the censor board has given the all-clear.
