Kajol reflects on Kuch Kuch Hota criticism

Bollywood's iconic trio Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji starrer Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a huge hit when it first premiered in 1998 and still is a cult classic. The romance drama received huge praise at the time, and fans still love to revisit the film.

However, Kajol has recently revealed that the film would not have earned the same success if it were released today.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Kajol was questioned about the criticism surrounding Shah Rukh's character's perception of her, specifically how he viewed her as a friend when she had a tomboyish appearance in college, but only saw her as a romantic interest when she transformed into a more feminine look.

While addressing the criticism, Kajol said, “We made that film only for entertainment. And, I feel that films reflect society. That is exactly what Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was. People thought like that at that point in time. Agar aaj KKHH banaane jaate toh we would be laughed out (If we made the film today, we would be laughed at).”

The film marked the directorial debut of Karan Johar. The film also stars Salman Khan, Archana Puran Singh, Anupam Kher, and Johny Lever in supporting roles.

However, Kajol was recently seen in the mythological horror thriller, Maa, which also stars Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, Jitin Gulati, and Kherin Sharma in pivotal roles. The film is produced under Ajay Devgn's production and is said to be the latest instalment in the Shaitaan franchise.
