Anushka Shetty to star in Kaithi sequel

As pre-production prepares for one of the most anticipated sequels in Tamil cinema, the excitement surrounding Kaithi 2 is intensifying. Powerhouse performer Anushka Shetty is rumoured to play a key role in the cast, even though Karthi is set to reprise his iconic role as Dilli.

The Baahubali actress is reportedly in negotiations to portray a "bold" character, potentially Dilli's wife, according to a recent Asianet report. Fans are ecstatic about this possible casting, but the producers have not yet provided an official confirmation. If confirmed, this would be a strong on-screen combination and a major addition to the Kaithi franchise.

It's interesting to note that Anushka and Karthi have previously appeared together on screen in three different movies. The most notable of these roles was as leads in Alex Pandian (2013), with cameos in Saguni (2012) and Thozha (2016).

Universe Studded with Stars Growing?

The excitement doesn't end there. Additionally, rumours indicate that Suriya and Kamal Haasan, who made waves in the Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe (LCU) as Vikram and Rolex, may reprise their roles in Kaithi 2. If accurate, this follow-up might represent a significant crossover in the LCU timeline.

Review: What is the purpose of Kaithi?

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Kaithi was a groundbreaking action thriller that came out in 2019. It narrates the compelling tale of Dilli, a former prisoner who was caught in a lethal drug bust while attempting to get back together with his daughter. A critical and financial success, the movie set the stage for the eventual LCU, which was further developed in Vikram (2022) and Leo (2023).

The sequel, which stars Karthi once more, is anticipated to feature returning actors Narain, Arjun Das, Harish Uthaman, and George Maryan.

What Will Happen to the LCU Next?

Depending on Thalapathy Vijay's future in movies, the LCU is anticipated to grow even more with projects like Vikram 2 and a potential Leo 2 after Kaithi 2 and Benz (starring Raghava Lawrence). A stand-alone Rolex movie based on Suriya's ominous persona has also been alluded to by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

The Next Movie Starring Anushka Shetty

Regarding her career, Anushka Shetty is preparing for the release of her next film, Ghaati, on July 11, 2025. In the gritty crime drama, which was directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, she plays a woman who becomes a local legend after rising through the ranks of cannabis smuggling. Vikram Prabhu, a Tamil actor, also appears in the movie.

Anushka joining Kaithi 2 could be one of the most exciting casting decisions in recent Tamil film history, adding star power and emotional nuance to an already intense follow-up.
