Jr NTR to donate Rs 50 lakh each to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for flood relief efforts

In the face of the devastating floods that have struck Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, actor Jr NTR has stepped forward with a generous donation to support relief efforts. The natural calamity has caused significant damage across both states, leaving many people displaced and in need of urgent assistance. Responding to the dire situation, Jr NTR announced a donation of Rs 1 crore, with Rs 50 lakh allocated to each state's Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The heavy rains that resulted in these catastrophic floods have been attributed to a depression over the Vidarbha region, which has led to intense rainfall in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned about the possibility of heavy rain, which unfortunately turned into a reality, resulting in widespread flooding and destruction.

Jr NTR, a prominent figure in the Telugu film industry, took to social media to announce his contribution. In his message, he expressed his deep concern over the situation and the suffering of the people affected by the floods. He stated, "I am deeply saddened by the recent floods in the two Telugu states. I pray to God that Telugu people recover from this calamity soon." The flood situation in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has been severe, with numerous areas submerged under water. The Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, recorded its highest flood water level, leading to the discharge of over 11.43 lakh cusecs of water.

This has resulted in extensive flooding in the surrounding regions, causing significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and agriculture. Similarly, in Telangana, the rising water levels of the Munneru river have led to severe inundation in the Khammam district, described as "unprecedented" by local officials.

The governments of both states have been actively involved in relief and rescue operations. Over 110 relief camps have been set up in Telangana, accommodating more than 4,000 people who have been evacuated from flood-affected areas. In Andhra Pradesh, 32 senior IAS officers and 179 officials have been deployed to oversee the relief efforts in various districts. Despite these measures, the situation remains critical, with many regions still struggling to cope with the aftermath of the floods.

Chief Ministers Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh and A Revanth Reddy of Telangana have appealed to the central government to declare the flooding a national calamity. They have also requested additional support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to enhance the relief operations. The IMD has predicted that the rains will subside in the coming days, but the recovery process for the affected regions will likely be long and arduous.
