Once again, awards season has returned, with the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards taking the centre stage.
Topping the nominations this year is the mind-bending sci-fi series Severance, with an impressive 27 nods. Close behind is the dark crime drama The Penguin, scoring 24 nominations. There’s tough competition in all the major categories—The Bear, Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building, and The Studio are all up for Outstanding Comedy Series, while shows like Severance, The Last of Us, The Pitt, and The White Lotus lead the drama race. Over in limited series, Adolescence, The Penguin, and Black Mirror are battling it out.
This year’s ceremony is taking place at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. The show will air live on Sunday, 14 September at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT (that’s 5:30 am IST on Monday, 15 September for viewers in India), and can be streamed on Jio Hotstar.

Best Drama Series: The Pitt wins the honour. This is was consecutive second honour for the show. Show creator R. Scott Gemmill accepted the award and said, "I want to dedicate this all the healthcare workers, frontline, first responders."
Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Noah Wyle wins the awar for The Pitt. Noah has received multiple Emmy nominations during his time as an actor on ER, so this is not his first. However, he hasn't received an Emmy nomination in 26 years.
Best Comedy Series: The Studio wins the award. Seth Rogen won for fourth time tonight.
Best Limited or Anthology Series: Adolescence wins the award. "I'm just a mixed race kid from a block of flats," Stephen Graham mentioned. "So for me to be here today in front of my peers and to be acknowledged today is the most humbling thing." He added.
Best Talk Series: The Late Show With Stephen Colbert wins the honour. "I want to thank CBS for giving us the privilege of being part of the late night tradition which I hope continues long after we're no longer doing this show," he said in his acceptance speech.
Bryan Cranston, star of Breaking Bad, brought some humour to the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards when he presented the Outstanding Talk Series award. In reference to recent remarks made by US President Donald Trump, who had referred to Tom Hanks as "woke and destructive" in a social media post, he humorously called Hanks a "woke degenerate" during his speech.
Outstanding lead actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Stephen Graham wins the award for Adolescence. He is also nominated for producing and writing Adolescence.
Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego addressed the 2025 Emmys audience about the upcoming shutdown of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, following Congress’s decision to cut its funding. Met with boos from the crowd, Abrego called the move a cultural loss and stressed the importance of storytelling in uniting society. As per CNN, the CPB’s closure follows a rescissions bill signed by President Trump, pulling $1.1 billion in funding meant for PBS and NPR over the next two years.
Husband and wife Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen have become the first couple to receive the 2025 Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the Emmys, honoured for their philanthropy, activism, and “unwavering commitment to global good.”
Married since 1995, the actors are recognised for decades of charitable work: Danson as a dedicated ocean conservationist and supporter of causes like the ASPCA and Elton John AIDS Foundation, and Steenburgen as an advocate for arts in schools, No Kid Hungry, and Artists for a Free South Africa. Together, they co-founded Angels at Risk in 2007 to fight substance abuse among youth.
Outstanding variety special (live): SNL50: The Anniversary Special won the award. Lorne Michaels accpeted the award. Michaels is best known for being the producer of Saturday Night Live. He now holds the record for the most Emmy nominations ever for an individual. He has received an extraordinary 112 nominations and won 24 awards.
At the 2025 ceremony, he was presented the honour by his former SNL cast member and protégé Tina Fey.
Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Cristin Milioti wins the award for The Penguin. This was her first Emmy win and nomination.
Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Erin Doherty wins for Adolescence. She dedicated the award to her elder sister.
Outstanding supporting actor in a limited series or TV movie: Owen Cooper wins the honour for Adolescence. "Step out of your comfort zone a little, who cares if you get embarrassed." He said during his acceptance speech. He made history after collecting the award, being the youngest actor to recieve Emmy.
Best Writing for a Drama Series: Dan Gilroy won the award for Andor. He gave a shoutout to his brothers Tony and John Gilroy, who both worked with him on the show.
Best Directing for a Drama Series: Adam Randall take the award. It's his first win for the night.
Best Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Philip Barantini won the award Adolescence. This was his second nomination as he was already nominated for his participation in the production team for Adolescence.
Best Directing for a Comedy Series: Seth Rogen wins the award for The Studio.
Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Jeff Hiller won the award for Somebody Somewhere. This was his first Emmy win and nomination.
Best Reality Competition Program: The Traitors won this award. Their second award of the night.
Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Hannah Einbinder won for her role in Hacks. Hannah ends her thankyou speech with 'Free Palestine' and also jokes about paying the difference for going overtime.
On a re-created kitchen set, Reba McEntire, Karen Fairchild, and Kimberly Schlapman performed a live version of the famous theme song in honour of The Golden Girls' 40th anniversary. As the trio later gave out the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy award, the audience, which included Colin Farrell, sang along.
Lead Actress in Drama Series: Britt Lower wins the award for her role in Severance. This was her first Emmy win and nomination. This was the second award for Severance.
Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Tramell Tillman won the award for his role in Severance. This was his first nomination and fist win.
Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Katherine LaNasa won the award for her role in The Pitt. This was her first Emmy nomination and first win. Wednesday fames Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones were there to present the award.
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Role: Jean Smart won the award for her role in Hacks.
