Despite high expectations, Kamal Haasan's highly anticipated film "Indian 2" continues to underperform at the box office. Industry tracker Sacnilk.com reports the film has only managed to collect around ₹72 crore in India after its first week.
This falls short of initial projections and suggests a significant drop in earnings compared to the previous day's collections.
Kamal Haasan's "Indian 2" grossed ₹70.4 crore in its first week, with Tamil Nadu contributing the most (₹48.7 crore). Despite early promise, the film's earnings have dipped significantly. On day 8, collections reached only ₹1.15 crore, bringing the total to ₹71.55 crore. Occupancy rates in Tamil Nadu, a key market, also remain low at around 12.82%.
Kamal Haasan's "Indian 2" opened strong in its first two days, grossing Rs 25.6 crore on day one. Tamil Nadu was the leading contributor, bringing in Rs 16.5 crore, while the Hindi, Telugu versions collected Rs 1.2 crore and Rs 7.9 crore respectively.
However, the film's performance dipped slightly on day 2, with total collections reaching Rs 18.2 crore. The Tamil version remained dominant at Rs 13.7 crore, while Hindi and Telugu collections were Rs 1.3 crore and Rs 3.2 crore respectively.
"Indian 2" initially generated excitement, but audience turnout dropped significantly after day 3. This decline coincides with the release of two new Bollywood films, "Bad Newz" and "Sarfiraa," creating tougher competition at the box office. The competition, coupled with potentially mixed reviews or lack of sustained audience interest, could explain the film's underwhelming performance.
Indian 2 was released on July 12. A follow-up to the 1996 cult classic "Indian," Shankar's "Indian 2" sees Kamal Haasan reprise his role as the vigilante Senapathy, fondly known as "Indian Thatha."
The film follows Senapathy's fight against corruption using the ancient Indian martial art, Varma Kalai. The star-studded cast includes Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, S J Surya, Bobby Simha, and the late Nedumudi Venu.
