Piloo Vidyarthi talks about Ibrahim Ali Khan acting in Sarzameen

Veteran actor Piloo Vidyarthi has expressed her disappointment over the significant reduction of her screen time in Kayoze Irani's directorial debut, Sarzameen.

Speaking candidly in an interview with News18, Piloo revealed that nearly 80 per cent of her scenes were removed from the final cut of the film, leaving her feeling disheartened and sidelined.

Piloo, who played a supporting role in the film, was dismayed by how her character was treated in the final edit. “Beech mein main phas gayi hoon, na Sar hai na Zameen hai,” she remarked, reflecting on the disjointed nature of her role after post-production.

She went on to critique the direction and editing of the film, stating, “The makers have gone wrong somewhere because the director struggled to piece together the narrative.”

Expressing her discontent further, she said, “They didn’t retain even 20 per cent of what was shot. I was disappointed, so I’m not promoting the film as well... But yes, it’s disappointing when you prepare for a role, and it’s reduced to nothing.”

While her experience with the film was disheartening, Piloo had a few words to share about co-actor Ibrahim Ali Khan. Although she appreciated his respectful nature, she noted that he still has a long way to go in terms of acting maturity.

“Acting depends on your life experiences—how you have lived your life. He was very nice to me, clicked photos. But I think he needs to have some depth. Star kids are also under a lot of pressure to live up to their parents. And Ibrahim comes from a family of big achievers. They have seen attention since forever. No one is bad” She said.

The film, which premiered on 25th July 2025 and is now streaming on JioHotstar, features a stellar cast including Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Boman Irani, Jitendra Joshi, and newcomer Ibrahim Ali Khan.

Set against the volatile backdrop of Jammu and Kashmir, Sarzameen explores the emotional turmoil of a family caught between duty and betrayal—when an Army officer’s son joins the insurgents, putting his mother in a moral crisis.
