Quentin Tarantino is all set to appear in Only What We Carry, an upcoming experimental film that also stars Simon Pegg, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hellmann, and singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine.
According to Variety, the movie was filmed over just six days in Deauville, France, at the end of September. Shot on a limited budget, the project relied heavily on improvised performances, giving it an organic, free-flowing tone.
The movie, which is set on the windswept Normandy coast, centres on Julian Johns (Pegg), a former famous teacher whose former pupil Charlotte Levant (Sofia Boutella) returns to her hometown to face the ghosts of her past.
Tarantino plays Julian's old friend John Percy, whose sudden appearance upends long-held beliefs. Liam Hellmann plays Vincent, an ardent artist caught between loyalty and love, while Charlotte Gainsbourg plays Josephine Chabrol, Charlotte's fiercely protective sister.
Lizzy McAlpine makes her acting debut as Jacqueline, a budding dancer whose presence compels everyone to confront the emotional burden of their past.
Speaking with Variety, director Jamie Adams shared his excitement about realizing a longtime dream. “I’ve always wanted to shoot an Eric Rohmer-inspired film in Normandy,” he said. “To do it with such a remarkable international cast and crew, while embracing the creative freedom of independent filmmaking, feels like a dream come true. I’m forever grateful to everyone who made Only What We Carry possible.”
