Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead on February 26. However, the final autopsy reports have revealed that the actor died after fasting for an extended period of time.
According to Fox News, the Office of the Medical Investigator in New Mexico have conducted the final autopsy that revealed that Hackman died with “trace amounts” of acetone in his body.
The final autopsy’s toxicology test revealed that acetone levels were “at 5.3 mg/dl, where as reported normal endogenous acetone levels in blood are up to 0.3 mg/dL.” The reports suggested that this level of acetone is consistent “with a prolonged level of fasting.”
The autopsy further noted that Hackman had a “history of congestive heart failure” and “severe chronic hypertensive changes, kidneys.” Meanwhile, a “bi-ventricular” pacemaker was placed in April 2019, and the autopsy also nodded to “neurodegenerative features consistent with Alzheimer’s Disease.”
Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead inside their Santa Fe, New Mexico, house on February 26. The initial reports suggested that Hackman died due to hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease as a significant contributing factor.
Hackman's pacemaker indicated his last activity was over a week before his body was discovered in the Santa Fe property. Hackman was 95 and Betsy was 65 at the time of their death. He died on February 18, almost a week before his caretaker found him unresponsive lying on the floor. Meanwhile, his wife, Betsy, passed away first, with February 11 being her last day alive.
