With her most recent song, Ek Baar Phir, National Award-winning singer Monali Thakur—who is renowned for her captivating voice and moving musical storytelling—is poised to win over hearts once more.
Monali has been a well-liked figure in Indian music for a long time, with a career that includes chart-topping hits like Sawaar Loon and Moh Moh Ke Dhaage.
But her next book, which will explore personal suffering, vulnerability, and emotional fortitude, is a significant shift from her previous work.
Monali, who is renowned for quietly protecting her private life, has hardly ever talked about her own difficulties. However, she breaks that silence with Ek Baar Phir. Inspired by Monali's personal experiences, the song and its recently released teaser offer a powerful and unvarnished look at themes of emotional abuse, betrayal, and heartbreak.
Sharing the teaser on social media, Monali wrote, “Sometimes, the words unsaid… say the loudest. The pain we carry quietly… shapes our story. Get to know my story on 06.08.2025. #EkBaarPhir #monali #monalithakur #newsong #newlife”.
The teaser is haunting and evocative, featuring Monali portraying a woman enduring disturbing episodes of abuse — both physical and emotional. The visuals include her being slapped and choked, layered with introspective shots of her journey across different landscapes. What elevates the impact is Monali’s voiceover in Hindi: "When someone close to you hurts and betrays you, your heart weeps a thousand tears, and you wonder, 'Why did this happen with me?'" The teaser closes with her words, “However much the world hurts you, one can't accept defeat.”
Sources close to the artist claim that Ek Baar Phir is one of Monali's most emotionally open projects to date and is based on her personal life. She recently shared the song's poster, which features her mother's and her own hands clasped together, referring to it as "a piece of my heart."

In reference to the song's central themes of trauma, survival, and the profound strength found in maternal love, she also shared a picture of herself as a child with her mother.
Ek Baar Phir, which is scheduled for release on August 6, 2025, is expected to be a moving hymn about suffering, introspection, and recovery.
