Mahua Moitra reveals her Bollywood crush

In a delightful departure from the cut-and-thrust of Indian politics, firebrand MP Mahua Moitra recently gave the internet something to smile about.

Known for her fierce speeches and razor-sharp repartee in the Lok Sabha, the Trinamool Congress leader let her guard down in a refreshingly candid moment during an interview with India Today — revealing a side rarely seen by the public: that of a die-hard Bollywood fangirl.

The object of her admiration? None other than the supremely talented and effortlessly charismatic actor Pankaj Tripathi.

“I watched the Munnabhai series, and I will watch it again. I watched Vicky Donor, and I loved it. I love Pankaj Tripathi. I watched the entire Mirzapur series. I even wrote him a note, which he never replied to, but yes, I wrote him a note," she shared with a grin.

Moitra went on to speak glowingly of Tripathi’s magnetic screen presence, especially in the roles that paint him in darker shades. “He is my crush. I think he is the coolest actor. I love the mean bad roles he does. I loved him in Mirzapur, even in Gangs of Wasseypur," she said, clearly unbothered by playing coy.

In a move that seemed lifted straight out of a Bollywood plot, she even penned a note to Tripathi, expressing her admiration and desire to meet over coffee. “I said I am a big fan and I would love to meet you for a coffee. But apparently, he stays in Alibagh, and he doesn’t meet anyone for coffee."

Her pursuit didn’t end there. Upon learning that a television anchor was about to interview Tripathi, Moitra seized the moment. “This happened when I was being interviewed by an anchor. She said, ‘I’m going to interview him next — Pankaj Tripathi.’ So I asked her to give him a note," she recalled.

Adding to the charm, she sought help from Bhojpuri star and fellow MP Ravi Kishan. “I asked Ravi for an interaction," she revealed. “He actually made me speak to him on the phone. But I was so shy, I forgot I even sent him a note!"

Pankaj Tripathi, acclaimed for his layered performances in films like Newton, Mimi, and Stree, continues to be a critical and audience favourite. With Mirzapur: The Film set for 2026 and upcoming roles in Stree 3 and a socially driven Bihar-set drama with OMG 2 director Amit Rai, his fanbase — political and otherwise — only seems to be growing.
