In a recent interview, renowned filmmaker David Dhawan revealed intriguing details about his son Varun Dhawan's experiences during the shoot of the 2012 film "Student Of The Year." The movie, directed by Karan Johar, marked the debut of Varun Dhawan alongside Sidharth Malhotra. According to David Dhawan, Varun faced moments of insecurity while working on this high-profile project, which he shared during his appearance on Arbaaz Khan's talk show, "The Invincibles Series."

David Dhawan recounted how Varun, fresh from his studies abroad, approached Karan Johar with a desire to assist him, despite having no previous discussions about pursuing a career in films. Varun's determination led him to express his interest in assisting Johar on the film "My Name Is Khan." David Dhawan recalled, "He came back from abroad after studying, and I asked, 'What do you want to do in life?' Lalli said, 'Everyone is taking up a bank job these days.' We never talked about films. All of a sudden, he went to Karan Johar and said, 'I want to assist you.' Obviously, Karan knew the family very well, and they went abroad to work on My Name is Khan. The cameraman, Ravi Chandran, was the one who told Karan to keep an eye on him."

Despite the support and encouragement from his father and mentor, Varun experienced insecurities, particularly in relation to his co-star Sidharth Malhotra. David Dhawan shared, "Karan came over to our house and said that he wants to launch him, and they did a photoshoot with Sidharth Malhotra." These initial days were challenging for Varun, as the competition and expectations weighed heavily on him.

David Dhawan further elaborated on Varun's emotional struggles, stating, "I was with him, and some days he used to be very upset also. I told him, 'These things happen in two-hero films. Listen, my son, you're damn good. Your confidence is something else. Don't be afraid, take the leap.'" This fatherly advice and reassurance played a significant role in helping Varun navigate the complexities of the film industry.

Reflecting on the pressures faced by newcomers in Bollywood, David Dhawan highlighted how such feelings are not uncommon in multi-starrer projects. The dynamic between two emerging actors can often lead to moments of self-doubt and competition. However, he emphasized the importance of self-belief and perseverance in overcoming these challenges.

Varun Dhawan's journey from an aspiring assistant director to a leading actor is a testament to his resilience and dedication. His collaboration with Sidharth Malhotra in "Student Of The Year" eventually proved to be a successful venture, propelling both actors into the limelight. The film's success paved the way for Varun to establish himself as one of Bollywood's most promising talents.

In the interview, David Dhawan also reminisced about the initial days of Varun's career, recalling how he initially envisioned a different path for his son. "Recalling days when Varun approached Karan Johar, David Dhawan said, 'He came back from abroad after studying, and I asked, 'What do you want to do in life?' Lalli said, 'Everyone is taking up a bank job these days.' We never talked about films. All of a sudden, he went to Karan Johar and said, 'I want to assist you.' Obviously, Karan knew the family very well, and they went abroad to work on My Name is Khan. The cameraman, Ravi Chandran, was the one who told Karan to keep an eye on him.'"

The Dhawan family's close ties with the Johar family and the camaraderie between the two filmmakers played a crucial role in shaping Varun's early career. Karan Johar's belief in Varun's potential and his willingness to launch him in a significant project like "Student Of The Year" was instrumental in Varun's rise to stardom.

As Varun Dhawan continues to evolve in his career, his experiences from his debut film remain a vital part of his journey. The lessons learned from "Student Of The Year" and the guidance from his father have undoubtedly contributed to his growth as an actor. Varun's ability to overcome insecurities and embrace challenges has been a defining aspect of his success in the competitive world of Bollywood.

Looking ahead, Varun Dhawan is set to appear alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the Indian version of "Citadel." Additionally, he has a project in the pipeline with his father, David Dhawan. Meanwhile, Sidharth Malhotra was last seen in "Yodha" and made his OTT debut with Rohit Shetty's "Indian Police Force" last year.
