The Khan family came together in an emotional gathering to honour the memory of Zarine Khan, wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan and mother of Sussanne Khan, Farah Khan Ali, Simone Arora, and Zayed Khan, at a prayer ceremony held in Mumbai.
In a heartfelt Instagram post shared jointly with her sister Sussanne, Farah Khan Ali gave fans a glimpse into the intimate and deeply moving ceremony.
Salim Khan, Jeetendra, Rakesh Roshan, and Saif Ali Khan were among the film industry veterans, close friends, and family members who were seen in the video coming together to pay their respects.
Guests were seen writing messages beside a framed portrait of Zarine, while her pictures played on a large screen, filling the room with love and remembrance.
As she sat among the guests, Sussanne Khan was clearly moved by the heartfelt tributes and could be seen crying. As he recalled their first meeting, Sanjay Khan broke down in tears as he spoke lovingly about his late wife on stage.
“I met her when I was 18 and she was 14. I found my home when I looked into her eyes,” he said, leaving many in the audience teary-eyed.
Their four children and nine grandchildren also came forward to share stories of their mother and grandmother — stories filled with laughter, warmth, and the enduring love Zarine brought into their lives.
In her emotional caption, Farah wrote: “Zarine Sanjay Khan to the world — but to me and my siblings, simply our mother.
She was my world, or so I thought… until I witnessed the overwhelming turnout of people from all walks of life who came forward to pay their last respects to a woman who made each one feel seen and heard — irrespective of class, social status, or faith.”
She continued, reflecting on the immense love and admiration her mother inspired: “To her, all were equal, and all equally important. I am truly blessed to have witnessed this outpouring of love for my mother… She shaped me and my siblings in her image — she loved generously and gave without flinching. She had a golden heart, just like the meaning of her beautiful name Zarine, which means ‘golden’ or ‘to shine.’ And shine she did — the brightest of all — as she left her earthly abode for her heavenly one.”
Zarine Khan, who passed away at 81 after battling age-related health issues, was remembered not only as a devoted wife and mother but as a woman of elegance, compassion, and strength.
