The Russo Brothers, known for their successful run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently shared an update on the upcoming Avengers films. The filmmakers revealed that they are shooting the next two Avengers movies back-to-back, a challenging task that excites both them and the audience.

According to the directors, the upcoming films, titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, are being filmed in London.

Joe Russo told Deadline, “It’s all in London, we’re shooting them fairly back-to-back, it’s a lot of work again, we may or may not survive, we’ll see. But we’re very excited about it. We found a way into the story that we think is gonna be challenging for audiences, it’s challenging for us to execute. And it’s really exciting for us, it gets us out of bed to do it.”

The Russo Brothers are no strangers to handling large-scale productions, having previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Their return to the franchise has generated significant buzz, as fans eagerly anticipate how they will handle the multiverse-heavy storyline set to unfold in Secret Wars.

When asked about the inclusion of characters from the X-Men universe or Deadpool, Joe Russo responded with uncertainty, stating, “Who knows? I don’t know. I don’t know who we’re gonna see. I still don’t know. Anybody in the Marvel bag could show up in this movie.”

Anthony Russo added, “If you close your eyes and use your imagination, you can see anyone you want. Whoever tickles your fancy.”

This vague yet intriguing response suggests that while nothing is confirmed, the films may have the potential for major crossover moments. Given Marvel Studios’ recent introduction of mutants into the MCU, speculation has been rampant regarding the involvement of iconic characters like Wolverine, Professor X, or even Deadpool in the upcoming Avengers films.

The first of these two films, Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.

The timeline aligns with Marvel’s strategy of building towards another major event following the conclusion of the Infinity Saga.

With the Russos at the helm, expectations are high for both films.

Their expertise in juggling multiple characters and large-scale storytelling makes them the ideal choice for handling the complexities of the multiverse-driven narratives that are expected to unfold in these upcoming Avengers installments.

As production progresses, more details will likely emerge regarding the plot, character appearances, and how these films will shape the future of the MCU. Until then, fans can only speculate about the surprises Marvel Studios has in store for them.
