Aamir Khan and his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, who are currently celebrating the success of their latest release, 'Laapataa Ladies', have discussed the experience of working together post their divorce.

In a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter India, both Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan discussed a range of topics, including the prospect of working together again and collaborating with other production houses.

Actor Aamir Khan revealed that while their divorce shifted them away from the traditional roles and responsibilities of a husband and wife, it did not affect their professional partnership. "Divorce did not affect our relationship — whether it was professionally or personally. I think we felt (the split) happened organically. Divorce is a word that implies you are leaving, you are moving away. We were moving away as husband and wife, but we were not moving away as human beings. So I don’t think that also caused any problems" Amir said.

Speaking about continuing to work with Aamir despite their divorce, Kiran Rao shared that it has been a great experience and described him as a "powerhouse." She emphasized that divorce is a separate matter, and as creative individuals, they work exceptionally well together, appreciating each other’s minds and trusting one another. Aamir agreed, noting that their similar sensibilities are key to their successful collaboration. Kiran also mentioned that whenever they have disagreements, they take the time to sit down, discuss, and reason things through. "We respect each other’s opinions, and I think that’s one of the reasons the partnership has lasted," she said.

Kiran Rao also spoke at length about her production house, Kindling, and expressed her belief that it’s important for the company to collaborate with other producers and studios. She said, “I do feel it is important for Kindling to branch out and work with other producers and other studios. Because I feel it is important for us to test our wings. Honestly, I feel different kinds of energy have fresh results. So, I do want to try and work with other studios as well."
Hearing this, Aamir Khan playfully teased his ex-wife, responding, “That’s when the outside studio will come to know our real value. Ghar ki murgi main hu bhai.”

Talking about her latest film, 'Laapataa Ladies', Kiran Rao shared, “My dream would be fulfilled if it went to the Oscars. But it’s a process, and I’m hoping it will be considered. I’m sure the best film will go, whoever they choose in the scheme of things.”

The couple was married for nearly 16 years before announcing their separation. They have a son, Azad, who was born in 2021 via surrogacy.
