Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have reportedly decided to shelve their ambitious Dadasaheb Phalke biopic. The project, which was expected to mark their third collaboration after 3 Idiots (2009) and PK (2014), has reportedly been put on indefinite hold due to dissatisfaction with the script.
The biopic, based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, was first announced earlier this year and had instantly stirred excitement among industry watchers and fans alike. However, it now appears that both Aamir and Raju Hirani are unwilling to compromise on the storytelling quality for such a landmark subject.
Bollywood Hungama quoted reliable sources saying, “Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani stand for perfection, and they were not happy with the script of Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic. Aamir felt that the script is too dry for the audience in today's world, and doesn't have the humour that one expects from their collaboration. After repeated sessions of rewrite, the duo have collectively decided to put the project on hold. They believe that a personality as iconic as Dadasaheb Phalke deserves a script that is both emotionally stirring and universally engaging. Until they arrive at that benchmark, they are in no hurry to rush the film into production.”
The decision to pause the film reportedly came after several months of script revisions. While the project had been in active development, both Aamir and Hirani felt that the tone lacked the emotional resonance and mass appeal that typically define their films.

In the meantime, Aamir Khan is exploring other opportunities. The actor, who was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), is currently evaluating multiple potential scripts. “Aamir is meanwhile reading multiple other scripts, trying to lock his next project,” the source added.
“Rajkumar Hirani too has started the process of identifying his next subject, and will get into the process of writing soon. While Phalke is put on hold, Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan will definitely reunite on something else.”
According to insiders, Aamir plans to finalise his next film by early 2026.
