The Deoria Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh comprises five assembly segments, including Tamkuhi Raj and Fazil Nagar of Kushinagar district. The constituency has a diverse voter base, with 13.9 percent Muslim voters, 14.2 percent Scheduled Caste voters, and a significant 52 percent of Other Backward Classes (OBC) voters. Brahmin, Rajput, and Kurmi voters also play a decisive role in this seat.

For this year’s Lok Sabha elections, due on June 1, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has replaced the current Member of Parliament (MP), Ramapati Ram Tripathi, with Shashank Mani Tripathi as its candidate. The I.N.D.I.A. Alliance has allocated this seat to Congress, which has selected Akhilesh Pratap Singh. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded Sandesh Yadav, also known as Mister.

The last two BJP MPs were considered outsiders by the constituents, so this time the party has fielded local candidate Shashank Mani Tripathi, who hails from Barpar village in the Deoria district.

In the 2019 general elections, BJP candidate Ramapati Ram Tripathi defeated BSP candidate Binod Kumar Jaiswal by 2.49 lakh votes, securing 5.80 lakh votes to Jaiswal's 3.30 lakh. The Congress candidate, Niaz Ahmed Khan, received 51,000 votes.

The Deoria Lok Sabha seat has a notable electoral history, beginning with the 1952 general election. It has seen the Congress party emerge victorious the most times, winning six elections, while the BJP has won four times. Other parties that have seen victory in the constituency include the Socialist Party in 1957, the Janata Party in 1977, the Samajwadi Party in 1984 and 2004, and the BSP in 2009.

Elections in the Deoria Lok Sabha Constituency will be held on 1 June.
