Aurangabad's political landscape seems intriguing, with its history of being a Shiv Sena stronghold, yet witnessing a surprise win by AIMIM in 2019. Aurangabad votes on May 13 during Phase 4 of the General Elections.
The inclusion of six legislative assembly seats namely, Kannad, Aurangabad Central, Aurangabad West (SC), Aurangabad East, Gangapur, and Vaijapur, within the Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency highlights the diversity and complexity of its political makeup. Each assembly segment likely represents distinct demographics, socio-economic profiles, and local issues, contributing to the overall dynamics of the parliamentary seat.
Aurangabad's or Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is the fifth most populous urban area in Maharashtra with a population of over a million.
The 2019 Lok Sabha election in Aurangabad witnessed a significant political upset, with Imtiaz Jaleel Syed of AIMIM securing victory over the long-standing Shiv Sena heavyweight, Chandrakant Khaire. Syed's win with 3,89,042 votes marked a notable shift in the political landscape of the constituency.

Chandrakant Khaire, who had previously won the seat four consecutive times, faced tough competition but secured a considerable number of votes, with 3,84,550 ballots cast in his favour. Despite his popularity and incumbency advantage, Khaire couldn't withstand the challenge posed by Imtiaz Jaleel Syed and the AIMIM.
The Congress candidate, Subhash Jambad, secured fourth place in the election with 91,790 votes, indicating the party's relatively weaker performance in the constituency compared to the AIMIM and Shiv Sena.
The 2014 Lok Sabha election in Aurangabad continued Shiv Sena's dominance in the constituency, with Chandrakant Khaire emerging victorious over Congress candidate Suresh Nitin Patil. Khaire secured a significant mandate, receiving 520,902 votes, indicating strong support for his leadership and party.
Suresh Nitin Patil, representing the Congress party, garnered 358,902 votes, trailing behind Khaire but nonetheless representing a substantial portion of the electorate.
The victory in 2014 marked another instance of Shiv Sena's consecutive wins in the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat, maintaining its stronghold in the region since 1989, except for the 1998 Lok Sabha election.
This time the main candidates in the fray are:
| Candidate | Party |
| Sushil Kumar Singh | BJP |
| Abhay Kumar Kushwaha | RJD |
| Sandipan Bhumre | Shiv Sena |
| Imtiaz Jaleel | AIMIM |
| Chandrakant Khaire | Shiv Sena (UBT) |
