The political scenario in Andhra Pradesh is heating up, and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan's 'Varahi Vijaya Bheri' yatra from Pithapuram has added a new dimension to the electoral contest. This development comes as YSRC president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu campaign extensively, and Kalyan's entry promises to change the political narrative. On Saturday, amidst the anticipation of a massive crowd, the actor-turned-politician set the stage for a compelling campaign, echoing his determination to challenge the status quo and advocate for a transformative change in Andhra Pradesh.
Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan made a passionate plea to the people of Pithapuram as he launched his campaign with a particular focus on young people and fishermen in the area. He emphasised the need for skill development over short-term financial incentives, encouraging the youth to think beyond the immediate appeal of Rs 5,000 giveaways (freebies by YSRCP for youth) and instead envision a future marked by sustainable growth and long-term opportunities. At a large gathering eagerly awaiting his evening speech, Kalyan announced his commitment to establishing a skill development centre in Pithapuram, highlighting the crucial role of vocational training in empowering young people.
Kalyan strongly criticised the present YSRCP government and encouraged voters to remember their unfulfilled promises and shortcomings while casting their ballots. He condemned the government's liquor policies, emphasizing their adverse effects on the community's health and welfare. He accused the administration of prioritising profit over people's well-being by selling low-quality liquor. As a solution, he pledged to establish quality healthcare centres in the area and use his network in the medical profession to ensure the delivery of healthcare services, even if the government delays.
Kalyan has proposed an ambitious plan to transform the region into a vibrant temple circuit to enhance the spiritual landscape and boost local tourism and economy. His party, in alliance with the TDP and BJP, promises to implement a comprehensive list of initiatives if elected to power, intending to address the pressing needs and aspirations of the Pithapuram constituency.
The excitement surrounding Kalyan's speech was palpable. It began at 8 pm and lasted for an hour, reflecting the Tollywood superstar's significant influence and the high stakes of his political campaign. Kalyan aims to redefine the political narrative in Pithapuram. His emphasis on skill development, healthcare improvement, and cultural enrichment positions him as a candidate committed to fostering long-term prosperity and development for the region.
In his speech, Kalyan confidently stated that although some may doubt his ability to keep his promises, his strong connections in Delhi will help him govern effectively. By emphasising his close ties with Prime Minister Modi, Kalyan positioned himself as a leader who can use the resources and support of the central government to meet the needs of the people.
As part of his campaign, Kalyan criticised the current YSRCP government and asked voters to remember the "negative things and failed promises" as they prepare to vote. He specifically criticized the Jagan administration's liquor policies, which he felt compromised public health in favour of profit. Kalyan called for prohibition to address his broader concern for the welfare of Andhra Pradesh's youth and families, positioning himself as a candidate who is attentive to his constituents' needs.
Kalyan has drawn attention to an alarming statistic that reports 30,000 girls and women missing in the state. This has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of the current government's policies on women's welfare. Kalyan has challenged the electorate to question Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who frequently advocates for women's welfare, about the safety and whereabouts of these missing individuals.
Focusing on women's safety is a strategic move highlighting the importance of accountability and transparency in governance in Kalyan, an Indian state. By connecting the issue of missing women to the broader conversation on welfare and safety, Kalyan hopes to mobilize public opinion and demand answers from the administration. This is particularly important given the administration's emphasis on welfare schemes, especially those aimed at women.
During the first phase of his campaign, Kalyan plans to travel across Andhra Pradesh, from Tenali to Anakapalle to Kakinada Rural, and hold a series of public meetings to highlight his party's and alliance's agenda. This extensive campaign illustrates Kalyan's strategic focus on Pithapuram, a constituency with the potential to significantly influence the electoral outcome, particularly given the dominant Kapu community's influence in the area.
It has been reported that the YSRCP is trying to counter Kalyan's spirited campaign. This is mainly to reduce his influence among the Kapu voters. As a result, the upcoming elections are likely to be hotly contested. Additionally, Kalyan has taken a collaborative approach with the TDP and BJP, indicating a unified opposition front. The aim is to present a formidable challenge to the incumbent government.
Varahi Campaign Vehicle
Jana Sena Party leader Pawan Kalyan is travelling across the state to gain support for his party. To help him in this rigorous state-wide tour, he has a new campaign vehicle named 'Varahi'. This military-style van is a mobile command centre and a mode of transportation. It is specifically designed to cater to the basic needs of its occupants and is equipped with a sleeping area, a washroom, and cooking equipment. It is self-sufficient and suitable for a campaign on the road. The vehicle's registration number is TS 13 EX 8384.
However, 'Varahi' is more than just a comfortable mobile home. It is a state-of-the-art political campaigning tool equipped with a modern sound system to ensure Kalyan's speeches are heard by thousands. CCTVs installed around the vehicle provide enhanced security and real-time footage transmission to a server, allowing the Jana Sena team to coordinate activities efficiently.

The vehicle is named after Varahi, one of the Saptamatrikas (seven mother goddesses) in Hindu mythology, and represents the protective and warrior aspects of Goddess Durga, reflecting Kalyan's spirited and dynamic campaign. A special puja was performed at the Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Kondagattu, Jagtial district, to mark the ceremonial commencement of its political journey.
Pawan Kalyan's political secretary, P Hari Prasad, has addressed concerns over vindictive actions during previous tours and highlighted the vehicle's custom features to counteract such tactics.
