The BJP won all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi in the recently concluded general election.
This is the third consecutive time the saffron party has won all the Lok Sabha assembly constituencies in Delhi. BJP won them in 2014 and 2019 elections as well.
Voting for all the seven constituencies in Delhi took place on May 25 during the sixth phase of the seven-phase general election.
Lok Sabha elections in Delhi:
Delhi has a total of seven Lok Sabha seats. Though not the largest state in terms of representation in the lower house of the parliament, a victory in India's capital is crucial for the government at the Centre.
The key contenders in Delhi are BJP on the one hand, and the Congress in alliance with AAP (INDIA bloc). While BJP is contesting on all the seven seats on its own, AAP has fielded candidates in four seats and Congress in the remaining three.
The AAP is contesting in New Delhi, West Delhi, East Delhi and South Delhi while the Congress is contesting in Chandni Chowk, North East Delhi and North West Delhi.
There has been a lot of debate and drama around AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, and the allegations of assault by AAP MP Swati Maliwal.
In 2019, BJP swept all the seven lok sabha seats in Delhi for the second consecutive time garnering a vote share of 56.56 percent. Congress’ vote share in the capital reduced to 40.62 percent.
In 2014, BJP won all the seven seats in Delhi with a vote share of 46.17 percent, the AAP got a 32.19 percent share while the Congress was reduced to 15.1 percent vote share.
