Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim election results 2024 Highlights: SKM retains power in Sikkim, BJP wins Arunachal for third straight term

Less than a day after the election ended, the police apprehended one individual in connection with attacks on policemen on Sunday, sparking another round of clashes between women and the force in the troubled Sandehkhali. When police arrived at Agarhati village in the Sandeshkhali area on Saturday night to look for a few people who were allegedly attacking them, local women got into a fight with Rapid Action Force (RAF) members, fell tree trunks, and blocked roads, according to a senior police officer.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, celebrated the BJP's triumph in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections on Sunday and forecast that his party will also win handily following the June 4 counting.

"With an overwhelming majority in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, the resolve of 'Fir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar' has been fulfilled. This dawn from the eastern direction will illuminate the country on June 4. The Congress-led I.N.D.I. alliance will certainly face defeat on June 4," he posted on X.

Jharkhand CM Champai Soren said, "...INDIA alliance is winning more than 295 seats...there is no truth in exit polls...In Jharkhand also our situation is good. We will win more than 10 seats in Jharkhand."

On June 4, before the results of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be announced, leaders of the INDIA bloc urged the Election Commission (EC) to make sure that the postal ballots will be counted and the results announced. They also emphasised that the poll panel should issue clear guidelines on the counting process and make sure those are followed.

In advance of Tuesday's vote tallying for the Lok Sabha election, a group of leaders from the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) met with the entire bench of the EC on Sunday.

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini shared his thoughts on the Lok Sabha exit polls and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement. "This is the result of policies of PM Modi and BJP govt... On 4th June, when the results come, all 11 lotuses will bloom (in Haryana)...Congress keeps lying and spreading fear but the people of India love PM Modi and his work...that is why people are giving him more than 400 seats...they (Congress) have not done any work so they find even 400 seats are also just fun," he said.

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu tweeted a post on X(formerly known as Twitter) saying, "I bow in gratitude to the great people of Arunachal Pradesh for their continued trust in the vision of Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji and sincere efforts of Team Arunachal in taking care of the well-being of every section of society... Let me assure the people of the state that the BJP-led Arunachal Pradesh government will work to fulfil all the promises as laid out in our party's poll manifesto..."

Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, requesting an urgent report on the violence that followed the election in Sandeshkhali.

On Lok Sabha exit polls, Tripura CM Manik Saha stated, " This was supposed to happen...the way PM Modi has done work...I want to thank PM, under his leadership the way the country is moving forward whether it is in terms of economy or security...this country has developed... based on this, people have supported us..."

Addressing a press conference in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu said, it is a historic occasion for Arunachal Pradesh and the BJP has scripted a record. In the 2019 assembly polls, BJP won 41 seats, while we have won 46 seats this time. Khandu thanked people of Arunachal Pradesh for the support they showed to BJP and . I also thanked PM Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda. The results are the reflection of development that happened here under the leadership of PM Modi, said Khandu

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor says, I can't take these exit polls very seriously. Last year, the exit polls had us winning Chhattisgarh but when the ballots were counted, we had lost. My view is that the people of Kerala voted on 26 April, they have waited for so many weeks already, they can wait for 2 more days. Some numbers are so far-fetched and difficult to believe that it's best we wait till the 4th of June.

Founder of CVOTER, Yashwant Deshmukh spoke on the exit polls and said "NDA is winning primarily because PM Modi is popular and because there is a huge gap of vote share in different states wherever they are winning...Two states are a good battleground- West Bengal and Maharashtra, there is a contest in each seat. Beyond these states, all the states are one-sided..." He also commented on Rahul Gandhi's "Modi fantasy poll" remark saying, "Politicians are free to say whatever they wish. They can say that they are fantasy polls of PM Modi but when our exit polls were showing that Congress is winning in Karnataka or Telangana or other INDI alliance partners in West Bengal, Delhi, Punjab, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, whenever we were saying that they are leading and they are winning, were we fantasy polls of Rahul Gandhi or Arvind Kejriwal or Mamata Banerjee or Stalin?..."

BJP securing 46 seats in the 60-member House, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu said, "This is a historic occasion for the BJP and the entire Arunachal Pradesh. People of Arunachal Pradesh have declared that they want BJP to stay in power for the next five years. This time, the mandate is more than what we got in."

After the INDIA bloc delegation meeting the Election Commission today, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "...The vital importance of counting postal ballots first, of declaring the results of postal ballots first. This is very clearly stated in the statutory rule...This has been understood by the Election Commission over the years...Our complaint is that this statutory rule of this 2019 guideline has been given goodbye. The Election Commission has repealed this 2019 practice. The net result is that by method of practice, EVMs can be counted and if EVMs counting gets over before the postal ballot, it will still be completed. In other words, the postal ballot counting and result need not be declared first...This is the main complaint...They gave us a patient hearing and we are awaiting a strong action..."

Leaders of the INDIA alliance, including Salman Khurshid of the Congress, D Raja of the CPI, and Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, arrived at the Election Commission of India's Delhi office.

On exit polls for #LokSabhaElections2024, Congress leader Pawan Khera said, "...Even the journalists are saying that it can't happen (numbers shown in exit polls), do you think the BJP can get 10 seats in Tamil Nadu?... It's a source of entertainment, we are taking it like this only but those in power might be using it to have an impact on the share market and Satta market, but if they are conspiring something big, and to legitimise that, they are creating all this environment, then it's a serious issue... We (Congress) are expecting 120-125 seats..."

After the BJP secured majority seats in Sikkim, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked everyone and tweeted, "I thank all those who voted for BJP in the Assembly Elections. I also appreciate the efforts put in by our Karyakartas. Our Party will always be at the forefront of working towards Sikkim’s development and fulfilling people’s aspirations."

As the counting of votes was completed for the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections, BJP claimed victory by winning 46 of the 60 Assembly seats.
Five seats go to the National People's Party (NPEP). Three seats go to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and two to the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA).

Prem Singh Tamang, the leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, attributed the party's resounding win in the state's assembly election to the hard work of SKM cadres and the public's faith in his administration on Sunday.

With 26 seats held thus far in the assembly's 32 members, the SKM has taken back control of the Himalayan state for the second time in its history. As of now, five more seats are leading for the party

People burst crackers as they celebrate SKM's victory. The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is set form government in the state as it has won seven seats and leading on 24 others. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is leading on one seat, as per the latest Election Commission of India data.

Pintso Namgyal Lepcha from the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) wins from the Djongu Assembly constituency.

- Independent candidate Wanglam Sawin won the Khonsa East assembly constituency defeating his nearest rival Kamrang Tesia of the BJP by a margin of 2,216 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.

- Sawin had won the seat in the 2019 Assembly elections on a BJP ticket. He was denied a saffron party ticket this time and contested the elections as an independent.

Polling for 32 assembly seats in Sikkim was held simultaneously on April 19, in the first phase of the just concluded Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 Assembly elections, Ithe SKM won 17 seats, while the SDF secured 15 seats. The exit polls predict that the SKM will come back to power in the state.

Counting of votes for Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2024 underway. The BJP has already won 10 seats unopposed in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.

To elect 50 assembly constituencies, Arunachal Pradesh held a single-phase election on April 19. A total of 133 candidates are vying for those seats. Without any opposition, the ruling BJP has already acquired 10 of the 60 assembly members. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and two newcomers, Hage Appa from the Ziro-Hapoli seat and Ratu Techi from Sagalee, were among those who won.

- More than 74% of voters cast ballots in the rerun elections, which took place smoothly and without any untoward incidents at eight polling places in Arunachal Pradesh.

- The Election Commission ordered a rerun of the polls on April 19 in response to violent occurrences and issues with electronic voting machines.

- Sario, Longte Loth, Bogne, Molom, Dingser, Bogiya Siyum, Jimbari, and Lengi were the assembly constituencies where the impacted polling places were located.

79.77 percent of voters cast ballots in the Sikkim assembly elections. In the Himalayan state, there are 4.64 lakh voters. Gangtok (BL) assembly constituency had the lowest voter participation at 63.66 percent, while Yoksom-Tashiding assembly constituency had the highest turnout at 85.37%.

Voter turnout was between 70% and 79% in ten assembly constituencies, while it was at least 80% in twenty other assembly constituencies.

Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, two northeastern states, are in the process of tallying the votes for their assembly elections. Simultaneously with the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19, polling was conducted for 32 assembly seats in Sikkim and 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh.
