A man's death in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, which was initially believed to be caused by a snake bite, has turned out to be a case of murder.

According to the police, the postmortem report revealed that the man, identified as Amit Kashyap (25), was strangled to death. During the investigation, Amit’s wife, Ravita, confessed to killing him with her lover, Amardeep, and staging it as a snakebite death to cover up the crime and mislead police.

The incident occurred in Akbarpur Sadat village in Behsuma region of Meerut on Sunday morning. Superintendent of Police Dehat Rakesh Kumar Mishra stated that Ravita had an extramarital affair with Amardeep, who was a friend of her husband.

After Amit learned of their relationship, regular disputes started between him and his wife. Frustrated with constant fights, Ravita staged the murder of her husband in a way that she avoids getting caught. She bought a snake for Rs 1,000, strangled Amit, and placed the snake under his body.

"The accused bought the snake for Rs 1,000 from a nearby area. As per our investigation, they killed the man and placed the snake underneath his body to make it look like he was bitten," SP Rakesh Kumar said.

Initial reports suggested that a snake was found underneath Amit's body, and ten snake bites were found by the medical team. However, the post-mortem results raised doubts.  The report confirmed that Amit had died from strangulation, not envenomation. Under questioning, both Ravita and Amardeep admitted their involvement.
