Traffic restrictions will be in place around the Red Fort today for the rehearsal, ensuring public convenience and security. The Prime Minister will address the nation from the Red Fort in New Delhi on Friday.

The full-dress rehearsal for the Independence Day ceremony will be held on Wednesday at the Red Fort, in preparation for the main event on August 15. Traffic restrictions will be in place around the Red Fort today for the rehearsal, ensuring public convenience and security. The Prime Minister will address the nation from the Red Fort on Friday.

Traffic restrictions around Red Fort
The following roads will be closed for general traffic between 4 am and 10 am on Wednesday. Only labelled vehicles with valid passes will be allowed:

  • Netaji Subhash Marg – Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk.
  • Lothian Road – GPO to Fountain Chowk.
  • S.P. Mukherjee Marg – Yamuna Bazar to Red Fort.
  • Chandni Chowk Road – Fountain Chowk to Red Fort.
  • Nishad Raj Marg – Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.

Roads to be avoided (4 am-10 am)
  • Ring Road from ISBT to Rajghat, including slip roads.
  • Outer Ring Road from Wazirabad to ITO.
  • Vikas Marg from ITO to Lal Qila.
  • Mahatma Gandhi Marg from Nizamuddin Bridge to ISBT.
  • Chhatta Rail Chowk to Esplanade Road, linking to Netaji Subhash Marg.
  • S.P. Mukherjee Marg – Yamuna Bazar to Red Fort.
  • Nishad Raj Marg – Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.

Approach routes to important places
  • Old Delhi Railway Station: From Sheela Cinema via S.P. Mukherjee Marg; from Chhatta Rail Chowk via Ghanta Ghar.
  • New Delhi Railway Station: From Ajmeri Gate via Minto Road or Bhavbhuti Marg; from Paharganj via Chelmsford Road.
  • Nizamuddin Railway Station: From Ashram via Mathura Road or via Ring Road–Sarai Kale Khan.
  • ISBT Kashmere Gate: From Paharganj via Panchkuian Road, Rani Jhansi Road, and Mori Gate; from
  • ISBT Ring Road via Slip Road–Salimgarh Bypass.

Diversions
  • From Tis Hazari to ISBT: Traffic will be diverted at Yamuna Bazar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg, and Hanuman Mandir.
  • From East Delhi to ISBT: Vehicles will be diverted via NH-24 and Vikas Marg.

Restrictions on commercial transport & interstate buses
  • Goods vehicles will not be allowed between ISBT to Nizamuddin Bridge and vice versa from 11 pm on August 12 till 11 am on August 13.
  • Interstate buses will terminate at alternative ISBTs depending on their route.

Restrictions on city buses on restricted roads
  • City buses will not operate on routes passing through ISBT–Ring Road–Delhi Gate–Ajmeri Gate–New Delhi Railway Station–Ajmeri Gate–Kamla Market–Rani Jhansi Road–Minto Road–IP Marg–BSZ Marg–Netaji Subhash Marg–Red Fort.

Alternate bus routes
  • Buses from Baraf Khana: Baraf Khana–Azad Market–Rani Jhansi Road–Jhandewalan–Paharganj–Rani Jhansi Flyover–Shankar Road–Patel Nagar–Shadipur Depot–Naraina.
  • Buses from Ajmeri Gate/Minto Bridge: Ajmeri Gate–Minto Road–IP Estate–ITO–Vikas Marg–Laxmi Nagar–NH-24–Anand Vihar–Kalyanpuri–Nizamuddin.
  • Buses from Mall Roadside: Mall Road–Khyber Pass–Timarpur–Wazirabad–Outer Ring Road–Mukarba Chowk–Anand Vihar.
  • Buses from South Delhi: From Ring Road: Lajpat Nagar–Defence Colony–AIIMS–South Extension–Dhaula Kuan–Naraina–Mayapuri–Punjabi Bagh.

Inter-state buses
  • Inbound: From Ghaziabad, buses will terminate at ISBT Sarai Kale Khan, and from NH-24, buses will end at ISBT Anand Vihar.
  • Outbound: From ISBT Kashmere Gate to Ghaziabad–NH-24 route via ISBT Anand Vihar, and from ISBT Sarai Kale Khan to Ghaziabad–Hapur–Meerut routes.

DTC recovery vans
  • Recovery vans will be deployed at designated points to assist buses in case of any emergency.

Special instructions for public
  • As per the report, the police have advised the general public to avoid bringing cameras, binoculars, remote control car keys, umbrellas, handbags, briefcases, transistors, cigarette lighters, matchboxes, water bottles, tiffin boxes, etc.
  • If you observe a suspicious object or person, report to the nearest police officer.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, para-gliders, paramotors, hang gliders, microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, and similar flying objects are prohibited over the capital from August 9 to August 15.

On arrangements ahead of Independence Day, Delhi Police Additional CP Traffic, Dinesh Kumar Gupta, was quoted by ANI as saying, "Restrictions were imposed on our borders from 10 last night under which we do not allow any commercial vehicles to enter Delhi. These restrictions will remain in place until the arrangements at Red Fort are over... We have restrictions on the ring road that goes towards Raj Ghat because there is movement of VIPs there..."
