Delhi-NCR received respite from sticky weather on Tuesday morning as heavy rain and gusty winds lashed the region, bringing relief from the recent hot and humid conditions. While the rain offered pleasant weather, it also led to traffic congestion and waterlogging in several parts of Delhi and surrounding areas.
According to a report by The Economic Times, in its latest weather update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the wet spell will continue for a few more days, and has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR.
Light rainfall on radar: IMD
IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said light rainfall had been anticipated over the past few days, adding that more showers are likely tomorrow.
“We are giving the forecast of light rainfall in Delhi NCR from the last 2-3 days. We have given a yellow alert for Delhi NCR, with very light rainfall expected tomorrow,” Kumar told ANI.
The IMD official also added that over the next two days, light to moderate rainfall is likely to persist across northwest India.
Advisory for passengers
The shifting weather conditions also promoted airlines and Delhi Airport to issue advisories for passengers, with several flights delayed by poor visibility and strong winds.
In its advisory, Delhi Airport said: “As per the Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast, Delhi is experiencing inclement weather conditions. Our on-ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure your journey remains hassle-free. For the latest flight information, passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines.”
Showers likely in Haryana and UP towns
In the next couple of days, several adjoining towns in Haryana, such as Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Rewari, Palwal, Bawal, Nuh, Aurangabad, and Hodal, are likely to see rainfall. In Uttar Pradesh, places like Khatauli and Sakoti Tanda may also get showers.
