As early trends in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 showed the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossing the majority mark, celebrations erupted outside the Janata Dal (United) headquarters in Patna.
What started cautiously soon turned into a festive scene as the NDA raced ahead of the opposition. By 12 noon, the NDA was leading in 186 seats, far ahead of the Mahagathbandhan’s 54.
Videos from the JD(U) office showed party workers dancing, bursting firecrackers and playing drums. Many smeared each other with gulal, turning the area into a splash of colour and sound.
Outside the BJP office, workers erupted into a jubilant roar, spinning into spirited dance circles and streaking each other’s faces with gulal, while a giant saffron party flag was unfurled into the morning light.
Buckets of hot jalebis were brought in repeatedly, and boxes of sweets were passed around among the cheering crowd. Some workers also blew conch shells to mark the moment of joy.
JD(U) leaders credited the early lead to the NDA’s development agenda. “This is a government of good governance. People have once again voted for development and reposed their faith in the work done under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji and Prime Minister Modi ji,” a party leader was quoted by PTI as saying.
Within the alliance, the JD(U) itself held a strong position, leading in 76 seats, more than double the leads secured by rival RJD at the time. In one video, enthusiastic workers were even seen offering sweets to a poster of JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, who is widely expected to be the NDA’s chief ministerial face if the alliance returns to power.
The excitement grew further as a massive party flag was unfurled. Supporters cheered and danced in circles, while colours, music, and slogans turned the JD(U) headquarters into a celebration zone.
The festive atmosphere extended across Patna. With the LJP (RV) leading on 18 seats and HAM(S) on 5, the NDA appear to have a strong and comfortable margin. Preparations for large community feasts were already underway in different parts of the city.
BJP state executive committee member Krishna Singh Kallu ordered 500 kg of laddus to mark the early trends. Photos of Prime Minister Modi and Nitish Kumar were placed near the huge cooking pan, while workers hung lemon and chillies nearby “to ward off the evil eye”.
Adding to the celebrations, the family of JD(U) leader Anant Singh announced a grand feast for nearly 50,000 people in Patna.
