A newly purchased Mahindra Thar SUV crashed through the first-floor window of a showroom in East Delhi’s Nirman Vihar on Monday, plummeting onto the road below after its owner reportedly mistakenly pressed the accelerator during a blessing ceremony for the vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 pm. The occupants of the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Pradeep Pawar, his wife Maani and a showroom salesman named Vikas, all escaped without injury. The couple are residents of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania stated that the accident happened moments after the couple had taken delivery of their new Thar Roxx model. “The owner accidentally pressed the accelerator while conducting a pooja of the new vehicle,” the officer was cited by PTI as saying. The subsequent lunge forward sent the powerful off-roader smashing through the showroom’s glass wall.

A motorcycle parked on the road below was damaged in the fall, police added. Viral social media footage of the aftermath shows the white SUV lying on its side on the road, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers.

The shattered glass facade of the showroom is clearly visible in the video and the Thar itself appears to have sustained significant damage, including a broken rear window.

This incident is the latest in a series of recent accidents in the capital involving the Mahindra Thar. As reported by HT, earlier this month a speeding Thar driven by an intoxicated man struck a two-wheeler in Rajendra Nagar, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old rider. The accused was arrested at the scene.

In a separate August incident, two men in their 30s were killed when a Thar hit them before crashing into an electric pole near Talkatora Stadium. Police in that case stated the driver had been arrested and a preliminary investigation suggested he had fallen asleep at the wheel, losing control of the vehicle.
