Security has been intensified at major railway stations across Gujarat following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir and India’s subsequent military response, dubbed 'Operation Sindoor', targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan in the early hours of Wednesday, according to The Indian Express. The move comes as part of nationwide efforts to prevent any further incidents and reassure the public.
At Ahmedabad railway station, Western Railway officials have reportedly deployed additional uniformed personnel and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to monitor entry and exit points around the clock.
Suspicious luggage is being screened with baggage scanners and hand-held metal detectors, while RPF and GRP personnel are conducting frequent flag marches and anti-sabotage checks with dog squads. Despite civil defence mock drills being suspended at public transport hubs, railway stations remain a top priority for surveillance.
Kamleshwar Singh, Divisional Security Commissioner (DSC) of Rajkot Division, told The Indian Express that vigilance has been stepped up at key stations such as Okha, Dwarka and Jamnagar, all located along the coastline. Singh emphasised the importance of collaboration with the GRP to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Meanwhile, Prem Nath Rai, Assistant Security Commissioner and acting DSC of Bhavnagar division, confirmed to The Indian Express that security protocols have been tightened as per central directives. “The dog squad is involved in frisking and checking. Baggages are being scanned and areas are under CCTV surveillance. We also have support from the local administration,” he was quoted.
Despite railway stations and major public transport hubs being exempt from Wednesday’s civil defence mock drills, authorities have prioritised these locations for heightened security. Coordination with law enforcement and intelligence agencies has been strengthened at all railway stations across the state.
