The Creta is the largest-selling Hyundai car in India.

Hyundai Motor India today announced the commencement of the production of passenger vehicle (PV) engines at its Talegoan plant (Pune). The company will start manufacturing cars at the facility from Q3 FY26.

The carmaker currently sells models like the Grand i10 Nios, i20, i20 N Line, Aura, Verna, Exter, Venue, Venue N Line, Creta, Creta N Line, Alcazar, Tucson, Creta Electric (EV) and Ioniq 5 (EV) in India.

In a regulatory filing, Hyundai said: "... we are pleased to inform you that the company has successfully commenced production of passenger vehicle engines at its manufacturing facility 'Talegaon plant' located at Plot No. A-16, MIDC, Talegaon Industrial Area, Phase-II Expansion, Tehsil-Maval, District Pune - 410507, Maharashtra, with effect from today, i.e. June 16, 2025."

"Intimation regarding commencement of production of passenger vehicles at Talegaon plant will be made separately in due course," the company added.

The engine production at the Talegaon plant has started at a time when the industry is grappling with the shortage of rare earth magnets.

In a separate statement on the rare earth magnets situation, the company said: "We are watchful of this situation and shall be taking appropriate measures by closely working with our supply chain partners to ensure uninterrupted production."

Hyundai acquired the Talegaon plant from General Motors in 2023. While the facility is being refurbished, it will have an annual installed production capacity of over 200,000 units for PVs. The carmaker also has a manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur (Chennai) with a capacity of 824,000 units.

The company's overall annual installed production capacity will cross 1 million units with the start of PV manufacturing operations at the Talegaon plant.

The domestic sales of Hyundai dropped 2.61% at 598,666 units in FY25 from 614,721 units in FY24. The exports remained flat at 163,386 units in FY25 as against 1,63,155 units in the previous fiscal.
