Attorney General K K Venugopal was referring to the written replies of UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey to the queries posed by the petitioners, opposed to the Aadhaar scheme and its enabling 2016 law, before a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra.
He said that school authorities can act as introducers to get children, between the age group of 5 to 15 years, enrolled for Aadhaar with the parental consent.
It is not permissible under the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) on Tuesday reported a growth of 83 percent in its India sales as new launches and continued expansion in retail reach has helped the Tata Motors-owned company to further strengthen its position in the country.
The two brands, which together form the fourth largest luxury brand in the country, sold 4,609 units in FY18, as against 2,518 units sold in FY17.
JLR has a range of 11 products in India, which are sold across 27 authorised outlets. Last year alone, the company launched as many as 10 new products, variants and upgrades.

Sources told Moneycontrol that the ministry was circulating draft of cabinet note among related ministries and could send the note for cabinet approval by May.
The scrappage policy, tabled in 2016, proposes to phase out commercial vehicles that are two decades old and do not comply with current Bharat Stage emission norms.

As many as 47,338 cases of crime against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were registered across the country in 2016, Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir told the Lok Sabha. As per the information provided by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 40,774 cases were registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other sections of law over alleged crimes against SCs and STs in 2016. Of these, charge-sheets were filed in 78.3% cases, and the conviction rate was 25.8%.

The government said the accreditation of a journalist could be permanently cancelled if the scribe is found generating or propagating fake news, reports PTI. As per the amended guidelines for the accreditation of journalists, if the publication or telecast of fake news is confirmed, the accreditation of that journalist would be suspended for a period of six months in the first violation and for one year in case of a second violation. In case of a third violation, his or her accreditation would be cancelled permanently, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 458.92 points to close at 23,644.19. The S&P 500 dropped 2.2% to 2,581.88 and re-entered correction territory. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.7% to 6,870.12 as Amazon declined 5.2%.

The lenders' committee of Binani Cement Ltd is slated to meet tomorrow to explore the possibility of an out-of-court settlement, in line with the observations made by the NCLT Kolkata bench. A meeting of the Committee of Creditors has been called on April 4 to consider the NCLT order, CoC sources said. A panel of two-member judges had extended the deadline for the CoC of bankrupt Binani Cement till April 9, to consider a proposal mooted by the Binani promoters for an out-of-court settlement and end NCLT proceedings.

ICICI Bankon Tuesday told the National Stock Exchange that it had found nothing material to indicate a lapse in the process of giving loans to Videocon Group.
The bank was responding to two queries raised by the exchange.
The largest private lender in the country has been mired incontroversy after it was revealed that it lent Rs 3,250 crore to Videocon Group, whose promoter Venugopal Dhoot is reported to have links with Deepak Kochhar, the husband of the bank's CEO Chanda Kochhar.
The Editors Guild of India condemned the Information&Broadcasting ministry's order to cancel the accreditation of journalists publishing "fake" news.
"Editors Guild of India strongly condemns arbitrary manner contemplated by I &B Ministry ostensibly to penalise any journalist or media organisation publishing fake news. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)on Tuesdayreported a growth of 83 percent in its India sales as new launches and continued expansion in retail reach has helped the Tata Motors-owned company to further strengthen its position in the country.
The two brands, which together form the fourth largest luxury brand in the country, sold 4,609 units in FY18,as against 2,518 units sold in FY17.
JLR has a range of 11 products in India, which are sold across 27 authorised outlets. Last year alone, the company launched as many as 10 new products, variants and upgrades.
