A grand military parade commenced in Beijing, drawing international attention as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin stood alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders, serving as guests of honour, flanked Xi, Putin on his right and Kim on his left, as they made their way down a red carpet toward Tiananmen Square.

The event, featuring precision military marches and a gun salute, marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Opening the ceremony with a televised address, Xi declared, “The rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable and humanity's cause of peace and development will prevail.”

He further stated, “Humanity is again faced with a choice of peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, and win-win outcomes or zero-sum games.”

This high-profile event follows the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit held in the northern port city of Tianjin. The 10-member group, known as the SCO, positions itself as a non-Western model of regional cooperation, seeking to present an alternative to traditional global alliances.
