Bihar: RJD leader Rajkumar Rai shot dead by two bike-borne miscreants in Patna

Just months before the Bihar Assembly elections, a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and property dealer Rajkumar Rai was allegedly shot dead by two bike-borne miscreants in Patna on Wednesday night.

Rajkumar Rai alias Ala Rai was a native of Raghopur in Bihar's Vaishali district.

Patna East SP Parichay Kumar told ANI, "A person was shot in lane number seventeen in front of Rajendra Nagar Terminal. His name is being told as Rajkumar alias Ala Rai. Accused seen in CCTV footage. There may be other culprits as well. It is being told that this person was politically active and he also used to buy and sell land. So we are investigating every angle. Our entire police team is engaged in investigating this incident. This incident happened around 10 pm..."

The incident took place near the Rajendra Nagar terminal when two bike-borne miscreants opened fire at Rai. He died on the spot.

Police are attempting to identify and nab the accused with the help of CCTV footage. Six cartridges were recovered from the spot. A forensic team is also at the spot for collection of evidence.

According to the police, a detailed investigation is underway but prima facie, a land dispute appeared to be the reason behind the attack, as per a report by the NDTV.

This comes just a few months before the Bihar Assembly elections. According to sources, Rai was expected to contest the polls from Raghopur assembly constituency.

The incident also comes after a 55-year-old retired electricity worker and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) block general secretary was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Pakauli village of Vaishali district in Bihar earlier in August.
